‘Looks more luxe than the original!’: Amateur DIY mum stunned thousands by transforming a $39 cabinet into a posh piece of furniture

An amateur DIY mum revealed how she transformed a basic $39 side table from Kmart into a luxurious high-end piece of furniture using budget-friendly products from Bunnings Warehouse and Supercheap Auto.

Aussie amateur DIY enthusiast Camilla said that she had never attempted a home project before. However, the mum-of-one stunned thousands with the end result of her DIY project which only cost her a mere $169.20.

Sharing the detailed guide for the DIY project on Facebook, Camilla said that she used Zinsser primer, British paints, oak half rounds, and spray paint to transform the $39 Egon Side Drawer into a posh piece of furniture.

The side table originally had black legs and featured a wood-like laminate. But, the DIY mum gave the look a makeover by using the aforementioned products, giving it a design that is similar to pieces from expensive brands that cost up to $599 per cabinet.

Camilla said that she started the redesigning process by spray painting the cabinet legs using enamel gold spray paint from Supercheap Auto.

Next, she primed the laminate with Zinsser primer.

Once the laminate was dry she painted each piece white using British paints from Bunnings.

She then decorated the front of the cabinet by gluing long oak half round moulds which were cut to size and were painted white.

Once all the pieces were dry Camilla built the side table and decorated it with books, white décor, a card and a camera.

Camilla's DIY post garnered reactions and comments from more than 2,000 people who praised her for the DIY transformation, calling the end result 'incredible' and 'stunning'.

One Facebook user wrote: 'You have done a great job! Looks more luxe than the original.'

I agree it looks a lot better, but the basic construction is still el cheapo Kmart..... ie no more durable than before.
