‘I was blessed’: Nine broadcaster ends 44-year run with the network

The media industry is famous for bringing seasoned talent onscreen and a lifestyle of glitz and glamour.

However, we have seen many of these talents come and go over the recent years.

This time, a veteran broadcaster took a bow from the newsdesk after decades of service.

Veteran journalist Liz Hayes announced her departure from Nine Network after a 44-year career in journalism.

The 68-year-old Hayes left behind a legacy of integrity, passion, and a knack for storytelling that has resonated with viewers nationwide.

'When I arrived at Nine I had little more than a notebook and a typewriter, but like my new and far more experienced colleagues, I carried with me an enormous passion for telling stories,' Hayes shared.

'I was blessed. I had found my tribe.'

Throughout her career, Hayes even caught the attention of Nine Network's then-owner, Kerry Packer.

Hayes became a fixture on several prime-time TV news programs, such as 60 Minutes and Under Investigation with Liz Hayes.

Her work has spanned a wide array of subjects, from political elections to international crises, showcasing her versatility and dedication to the craft.

Liz Hayes' career was a testament to the evolution of media and her own personal growth within the industry.

'Of course, since then, much has changed. The media world has evolved, as have I,' Hayes added.

'What hasn't changed is the need for good stories to be told, and I will continue to tell them.'

Hayes reflected on her lengthy tenure and expressed her gratitude for the experiences she had with the network.

'I'm thankful for the wonderful friendships that I have endured and deeply appreciative to the many people who trusted me to tell their stories,' she shared.

In a separate statement, Nine Network expressed their gratitude towards Liz Hayes and shared that she is still a part of the Nine family.

Viewers may see her again on their screens for special stories and events.

The real reason behind Hayes' departure remains undisclosed.

However, last year, she allegedly faced a significant pay cut as Channel Nine looked into cost-cutting measures.

Liz is a legend in my opinion and respectfully I think we will see her again on the subject's that she is awesome on and as she is a senior lady now perhaps time to slow down from the workload involved in her presentation work
Awesome lady awesome 👍

I had literally just finished her amazing book the night before this news came through. She has had an amazing career and sounds like it is not over yet but will be at her pace and stories of her choosing.

I remember years ago when we were both young Liz did the morning show with Steve Liebmann. I can recall thinking that she would be a force to reckon with as her presentation was dynamic. I'll miss her regular appearance. She is one of those shining stars like Tracy Grimshaw.

No doubt she has some interests she would like pursue away from work, especially if she wants to travel.
So many people work longer, then find they are no longer to pursue some of the things they had given up work to do. I know of people who have bought a large caravan were going to go on a long holiday but weren't healthy enough to do so.

Thanks to Liz Hayes for bringing the truth to TV. Hope she enjoys her retirement or whatever she is going to do.

Why am I suspecting this was not her decision. No matter how good you are or how much you put in, you are stamped with a "Use By" date from the time you start.

What's the caravan story got to do witht this article.I am sure Liz Hayes dream is not to miss out on going caravaning.she is healthy enough and wealthy enough to do what she wants were and how she wants.
I hardly think not being healthy enough to travel in your caravan on a LONG TRIP is a relevance or consequence in this occassion.Sorry.

I've always thought Liz Hayes was a proficient, quality Journalist. She came a long way from a dairy farm near Taree. Such a shame Nine was in budgetary cuts for her programme.

She probably saw the writing on the wall - look at all the mainstream media personalities over in the States stepping down. Mainstream media reporting is dying...
