‘I was blessed’: Nine broadcaster ends 44-year run with the network

The media industry is famous for bringing seasoned talent onscreen and a lifestyle of glitz and glamour.

However, we have seen many of these talents come and go over the recent years.

This time, a veteran broadcaster took a bow from the newsdesk after decades of service.

Veteran journalist Liz Hayes announced her departure from Nine Network after a 44-year career in journalism.

The 68-year-old Hayes left behind a legacy of integrity, passion, and a knack for storytelling that has resonated with viewers nationwide.

'When I arrived at Nine I had little more than a notebook and a typewriter, but like my new and far more experienced colleagues, I carried with me an enormous passion for telling stories,' Hayes shared.

'I was blessed. I had found my tribe.'

Throughout her career, Hayes even caught the attention of Nine Network's then-owner, Kerry Packer.

Hayes became a fixture on several prime-time TV news programs, such as 60 Minutes and Under Investigation with Liz Hayes.

Her work has spanned a wide array of subjects, from political elections to international crises, showcasing her versatility and dedication to the craft.

Liz Hayes' career was a testament to the evolution of media and her own personal growth within the industry.

'Of course, since then, much has changed. The media world has evolved, as have I,' Hayes added.

'What hasn't changed is the need for good stories to be told, and I will continue to tell them.'

Hayes reflected on her lengthy tenure and expressed her gratitude for the experiences she had with the network.

'I'm thankful for the wonderful friendships that I have endured and deeply appreciative to the many people who trusted me to tell their stories,' she shared.

In a separate statement, Nine Network expressed their gratitude towards Liz Hayes and shared that she is still a part of the Nine family.

Viewers may see her again on their screens for special stories and events.

The real reason behind Hayes' departure remains undisclosed.

However, last year, she allegedly faced a significant pay cut as Channel Nine looked into cost-cutting measures.
