Do you drink decaf coffee or use these household products? It could be causing Parkinson's

Maybe it might have been nice to list the offending household products, or at least some that are popular. As you know, manufacturers are clever at hiding chemical names from consumers by giving them different or technical names. Or printing very small orange writing on black background, which...

Has Woolworths been secretly tricking you through its sale displays? Shopper slams retailer for 'absolutely disgraceful trick’

Not a real solution. their prices are often higher than the larger stores, and they are likely to have close to use by dated products on the shelves. However at the IGA near me, I do commend the store assistants for always being helpful and courteous, AND visible in the store.

Has Woolworths been secretly tricking you through its sale displays? Shopper slams retailer for 'absolutely disgraceful trick’

I used to see items on 'Sale" on a shelf, and often there were similar, but better quality products mixed in with them. Of course a canny shopper would pick the better quality product for the same price as the cheap one. But getting to the checkout I found that the quality product was not part...

The cost-of-living crisis: Why can't nurses and teachers afford groceries anymore?

I am glad that you mentioned Self Funded Retirees as a group doing it tough. In Australia, it seems, if you are not receiving a pension then you are NOT poor. I was self funded disabled, receiving approx $25 per week net rental income, and because I owned ONE 2 bedroom home unit I was...

Viral sign from a tradie sparks wider debate: Effects of raised retirement age extend beyond seniors

You sound so very like my immediate family. Mum stopped work at 27 when she was pregnant with my brother and did not expect her job to be held over for her. My Dad continued working till he was 72, whilst, in his last years, dealing with asthma. He retired with a reasonable super payout...

Viral sign from a tradie sparks wider debate: Effects of raised retirement age extend beyond seniors

I agree for a blue collar worker, 70 is an unreasonable retirement age. I was always an office worker, as well as a waitress, and I thoroughly planned to work until at least 65, so 70 retiremenrt would have been a welcome new ruling. In the end I had to retire @38 due to a brain injury. But we...

Bargain hunter's dream come true: $60 worth of groceries and a FREE roast chook for just $5 – here's how!

Yes, we have all learnt by now that products are usually marked down because of the use by date, but what makes me very p'd off is when the mark down sticker is placed directly over the use by date so that you do not know if you do actually have a day or 2 for the product to stay in the fridge...

This Coles mark-down tip divides the internet - Are bargain hunters crossing the line?

Some 35 years ago, my mother and I used to go to Coles in Box Hill to get the bread markdowns on a Saturday morning. Many others did the same. Some days we were disgruntled because the bread we wanted had already been sold out, and there was only the plain white bread left, or similar. One...

Electronic payments are taking over: Is cash no longer king?

I remember years ago when I was still employed and picking up at least $100 cash a week, I was in the supermarket at the self serve area, and saw a young man paying for something costing $2.65 with a card. I was astounded, surely he had that much cash in his pocket. Now unemployed and on...

Electronic payments are taking over: Is cash no longer king?

Unfortunately with almost everyone receiving their income by bank transfer, it is inconvenient to pay by cash. When wages were paid in cash we had a handful of cash, and if we wanted it in the bank, we had to go to the bank and deposit it. Now the option is to have to go to the bank or ATM and...

Electronic payments are taking over: Is cash no longer king?

I was a worker during the cash economy, and with 2 part time cash jobs,I found it easy to pay off 2 properties, and buy bank shares. If I had no money in my wallet I could not buy that lovely dress, and had to eat what I had at home instead of buying something else at the supermarket whilst I...

Is Kmart letting you down? Find out the shocking reasons customers are losing trust in this major retailer

I lost faith in Kmart years ago, when their items were not good quality or smart, as compared to target. As a Kmart opened in Camberwell recently, in place of Target, I wandered in to have a look, have only bought 2 items, a frying pan and a summer dress, and I have been pleased with both...
