Labor aged care reforms 'meaningful' but fall short of royal commission vision, says watchdog

At least you were notified it has been deferred - I haven't heard anything from anybody for over a year. Although I admit I am not urgent, and you doubtless need it much more than I do. Good luck and start agitating if you can. I usually start by writing letters to politicians - in this...

I think you'll find non-Hodgkins lymphoma has a medicare number.

Catch rare lunar event everyone talks about: 'It's definitely gonna be the best one'

Haven't read the full article yet - just hit with the 'When the moon's fully inside the earth's atmosphere,,,' bit. When/if that happens, the earth's in BIG trouble! That's one meteorite that's going to cause more extinction events than even the one which wiped out the dinosaurs.

Qualified seniors are getting rejected from energy loans by government—what's happening?

the government giveth, the government taketh away. Blessed is the name of the government. Gross change: 0. Net change - more bureaucratic fiddling and expense. Whoopee!

Battery installers boycott 'nightmare' WA rebate scheme, causing customer delays

How unusual - a government comes up with what they think is a good idea, legislates a scheme to achieve the idea but doesn't have any idea how to actually manage it! Reminds me of the home insulation debacle not that long ago.

Qualified seniors are getting rejected from energy loans by government—what's happening?

How typical: if you've paid taxes all your working life and made provision for your retirement, you're not entitled to any financial assistance. Even when such assistance will help Australia achieve 'net zero' emissions!

    Grandkids Slang: 'Chopped'

I regularly give myself a "mop chop" - it's been slang for a haircut for a long, long time.

Labor aged care reforms 'meaningful' but fall short of royal commission vision, says watchdog

Everything comes at a cost, and I think it perfectly reasonable that people who can afford to pay should pay. Unfortunately, the recipients who have lived off welfare most of their lives haven't contributed taxes during their working life, so really haven't earned their right to aged care...

How a single unruly passenger can ruin a flight and cost an airline over $534,000

What? Ban the sale of alcohol? How unAustralian. Un-UglyAustralian, anyway. It's a very good idea to ban the sale of alcohol at airports and on aircraft (wish I'd thought of it!) - but breath testing would add a lot of pre-boarding time requirements. Unless there is some alcohol-sensing...

$5 for this?! Aussies furious over shockingly small chip serving

You really shouldn't feed even that amount of chips to a budgie. At least, not in one meal. But for that volume and $5.00, I'd expect silver service, at least - if not served on a gold plate! Accompanied by a trumpet fanfare, of course.

New Zealand's cheeky challenge: 'Count your wildlife, Australia—it's your move'

We had a "bird feeder" in Darwin, outside my place of work. The department of conversation growled at us for it - we were feeding corellas and galahs. We used 'small parrot mix', so it was a balanced diet for those who availed themselves of it. BUT the growling was because we could get...

How a single unruly passenger can ruin a flight and cost an airline over $534,000

If nothing else, a ban on the person flying on that airline for life. Preferably on any airline, anywhere in the world. POSSIBLY a flight back to his/her country of origin is all right - but no refunds on any disrupted travel plans. What is the point of making life unpleasant for others...

Great payment divide: Amazon's Afterpay move highlights how different generations shop

"Afterpay" is just a variation on getting a loan - you're late with paying, the loan accrues interest. Not on the amount left unpaid, but on the whole loan until it is fully paid. Easy credit, being able to borrow more than you can really afford to pay - and you're in the debt and despair...
