The Surprising Reason Aussies Can't Get Enough Chicken—Are You Missing Out?

It has been years since I have been able to afford to buy any red meat. I would love to have a good steak occasionally, or roast lamb or pork. I don't even mind roast beef. I grew up eating roast mutton (before it was called lamb & priced accordingly), now you can't even buy mutton. So, it's...

Are you making this common mistake that got me kicked out of my GP’s office in just 6 minutes?

Good luck in shopping around. In my town we have one GP & he/she usually stays for a year (or 2 at the most), then we are without a GP for the next year or 2. So, many travel 45-50kms to the next town to maintain a regular GP. But then, there are only 2 practices in that town. One has ony 1...

    English Language – A Dinosaur’s View

I have never heard that. It would also make the word rather weird as you would say 'oten'. If have always thought that the 't' was silent.

And then when people type ect for the abbreviation of etcetera. Another annoying Americanism is when they call overs (as in cricket or baseball) over.

Oh yes. I can't leave that one alone & have to ask the poster why they are so defiant & suggest that they check their dictionary for the definition of both words.

    English Language – A Dinosaur’s View

I was definitely taught the difference between "is & are" & "accept & except". One of my big "peeves" listening to broadcasters & the average Aussie is "off of". These 2 words do not belong together. Americans can't read or say what they read e.g. Arkansas - how on earth does that say...

New rules for drivers! Fresh fines, slower speeds—starting any day now

Time to get out the horse & buggy. That will go faster than the speed limit for cars & there is no speedometer on the buggy (or the horse) so they can't fine the horse for going too fast.

Australians struggling to pay energy bills face 'major inconsistencies' in retailer responses

I have just contacted my supplier because I saw on here another person getting a much lower daily charge that I am on & I wanted to know why. I got the usual runaround about that but then got told that they are introducing a new plan on 1 July & I should contact them on that day to see if they...

Australians struggling to pay energy bills face 'major inconsistencies' in retailer responses

I understand what you are saying. If I can't understand their level of English I DEMAND to speak to their supervisor & then DEMAND a person who is a native English speaker. Then I also DEMAND that they speak slower & explain what they are saying. We have the right to know what they are...

Australians struggling to pay energy bills face 'major inconsistencies' in retailer responses

Whaaat??? I am also with Red Energy & my daily supply to property was $1.45 & is going to $1.98. This is an increase of 36%. Along with increases in all other charges, there is a decrease in rebate for solar from 5c/kwh to 4c/kwh.

This ‘suckerpunch’ electricity price hike is coming—here’s what might soften the blow

I have just received notification of my price rises with Red Energy. Just for having electricity to my home the price will increase by 36%/day!!! This cost will now be $1.98/day & they can't even guarantee continuous supply nor do they reduce the cost when we have (regular) power outages...

Can your payments disappear when you need them the most? One woman's experience may have the answer

When did psychosis become a symptom rather than a diagnosis? As a former registered psychiatric nurses it was always considered a diagnosis in my years of nursing.

Calls grow louder for the government to stop stalling on home care

My home care package was approved on 20 Dec 2024. I have heard nothing from the govt or Aged Care since that date. Now with winter here I struggle every day to get wood from the woodshed to the house so I can keep warm. In this struggle I often stumble on the steps as I carry the wood into...

Shoppers frustrated over checkout practice in ALDI. Did this catch your attention, too?

The last time I had my shopping checked was in K-Mart after they had moved the checkouts from the front of the store to the middle. What a stupid thing to do. I refused to stand & let someone go through my shopping as this would not have happened when the checkouts were placed right before you...

Report reveals hidden Telstra tax, adds nearly $1000 for premium users

If the power goes out (& it does - regularly - where I live) then my mobile phone still works & I can access my internet, phone, msgs, & all the other useless apps which are located on the phone. The NBN is not required to access my phone, only the internet on my laptop & desktop computers &...

Report reveals hidden Telstra tax, adds nearly $1000 for premium users

I left Telstra many years ago because of the cost for their service. I went with Belong & have been extremely happy with the service I receive from them & the cost is within my budget. I don't need all the bells & whistles which Telstra says they provide (& for which we pay) for my current...

Ageing in a Healthcare Maze: Are Older Australians Being Let Down?

I have been waiting for more than 6 months for an outpatient clinic appointment with an orthopaedic surgeon at a large regional hospital. After I do eventually get that appointment it will probably be another 12 months before I can get my knee replaced as that is the projected waiting time. In...
