Young pollies want tax reform—but it’s the older Aussies who’ll pay for it

The writer of this article did a great job of creating an Us Vs Them vibe. Maintain the rage!!! In reality a consumption tax hits those who consume more the most. The tax-avoiding millionaires consume most, & so pay most, & cannot avoid it. Most seniors are not big consumers, & those who are...

Been seeing the same GP for years? This one policy might mean you can’t go back

As they say in the classics, if you're only paying peanuts, you'll just get monkeys.

Has your medical bills risen over the years? Report targets medical professionals engaging in price gouging

I recently saw my specialist & you are right, my jaw hit the floor when I was charged $400 but Medicare only covered me for $105.70! But that's not the doctor's fault. He's the top man in the job, a Professor, & of course that's not his pay - he has overheads such as receptionist & rent &...

Seniors Love Private Health Cover – But Can They Afford It?

The article states, "One thing is clear: doing nothing is not really an option." I think you'll find that's what will happen. The politicians have no real idea. You write that the Government were all for a review when they were in opposition, yet they never did it in the next >3 years in...

    Million-dollar retirement? Here's why it’s not actually a must-have

The numbers are certainly rubbery. As Nicnat writes, there is no mention that the aged pension will not be paid to everyone. Also, I've tried several retirement calculators & they seldom allow you to index your withdrawals to allow for inflation eroding your lifestyle (despite happily allowing...

Whistleblowers say warnings about patient safety at Northern Beaches Hospital were ignored

The title could be aptly applied to every public hospital in Australia, Government run same as the private sector.

See a boost for your retirement savings: Twelve million seniors will qualify for this benefit soon!

As others rightly state, this is a huge impost on small business. And it was never intended to work this way. Decades ago when they started Super (at just 3%) the plan was always to gradually raise it in steps... to a maximum of 9% contributed by employers. It was acknowledged this is still...

Out-of-pocket medical costs are ‘stacking one on top of the other’: Is your specialist bill creeping toward $300?

The implication appears to be the gap is due to doctors overcharging. They are not - get over it. Medicare is an underinsurance scam of little interest to the Insurer (government) except forgetting perceived election mileage. The pathetically low "rebate" is set by the monopoly Insurer & will...

118 lives lost on Victorian roads this year—this choice could save you

I remember reading about an interaction between a speaker engaged by the Vic Government & a gentleman at one of many forums organised when compulsory wearing of seatbelts was coming in. The gentleman facetiously asked, "What, you reckon I have to wear a seatbelt every time I drive"? The speaker...

New tax laws prompt changes in retirement plans nationwide. Here's what we know

If someone's $3M+ SMSF is all property & too little cash, that's their mistake. They need an incentive to properly diversify their mix of assets. And the logic equating selling an investment property as reducing the rental pool is an epic fail. The property doesn't vanish. Either another...

Ageing in a Healthcare Maze: Are Older Australians Being Let Down?

Sadly all the votes to be had from Health covering actions have long passed & politicians actually don't care - they need the money for other vote-winning promises. Medicare is a huge underinsurance scam - you are covered for half of what you're worth, if that. Where is the media? Why is no...

Victorian government injects millions into healthcare ahead of state budget

What a misleading headline! Building, maintaining & managing Public Hospitals is a core State Government responsibility. And the Government doing their actual job is being twisted as being "Good News"? And the numbers are very rubbery. $630M will NOT fund 9 new or expanded hospitals. It...

Super fund outage locks over a million Aussies out of accounts during system upgrade

I was contacted well in advance so knew about the changes/temporary access issues. Can't say I understand why it needs to be for so long to change administration. That seems excessive. So long as the new group are quicker to process stuff in future.

Australia's healthcare system could change forever with Labor's new 24/7 service

Wow, you guys at SDC really love Labor & their Medicare lies. Where's the asterisk on the link to the article (I'm assuming you're getting paid to spruik this Labor propaganda)? Let's be clear, Labor have manufactured the GP shortage, BB crisis & lack of after hours doctor availability. For...

This Is What Happens to Your Body After Drinking Coke - Why Thousands Are Being Recalled Right Now!

Where did SDC really get this article? Who calls carbonated soft-drinks Soda in Australia? Also most of the details about the side effects are pseudoscientific gobbledegook. For instance, phosphoric acid could help dissolve bones - in a beaker! But since our bodies break down compounds in a...

Powerful natural antibiotics you have in your kitchen

People have long had these available. Yet the mortality rate pre-true antibiotics was enormous. Says a lot about their real efficacy!

This 'stubborn pimple' turned out to be something much worse – an Aussie woman's shocking story will make you think twice!

The odds are your husband's treating doctor used the term "root" in an attempt to explain a concept s/he wished to convey. Don't get me wrong. I'm not trolling. Your husband's sad experience is contrary to normal. BCCs only spread by direct growth & can be extensive if there long enough -...

This 'stubborn pimple' turned out to be something much worse – an Aussie woman's shocking story will make you think twice!

Actually, that is incorrect. BCCs can uncommonly grow inwards as well as outwards, but not "roots". It sounds more likely your husband had SCC. Even then it would net explain the quoted cost. No clinics are "funded by Medicare". It is Patients who are insured for a specified, limited rebate...

This 'stubborn pimple' turned out to be something much worse – an Aussie woman's shocking story will make you think twice!

Can SDC kindly explain why the $9000? Is she an overseas student so not covered by Medicare? Even then it would have to be an expensive version of plastic surgery level of charge. BCCs essentially don't spread, so local excision is curative.
