I'm a typical pear and the clothes don't fit me either - snug around the hips and miles too big around the waist. And elasticised waists all sag or start falling off ... sigh.

Stirrup pants were sensible in the 80s as fabrics did not 'perform' as well as they do now (see the comment from @Phyll about baggy knees above). Stretch fabrics have evolved since then and are now light years away from what put up with then.
