Whilst it's never ok to hit anyone, the fact is he was from a different generation where slapping a woman was justifiable. Thankfully we've come a long way in the last couple of generations.

It's simple....if you stand up use the male toilets if you sit down use the female toilets. If you feel uncomfortable imagine how you make the other users feel.
