Unbelievable.... dogs in strollers, dogs in carts, dogs everywhere.... it's a hardware store... one day my husband and I went to get some renovation supplies, but the exit was blocked by 2 ladies yakking away with their dogs also checking each other out.... when my husband asked them to move out...

Your Say Sunday: Legalising Voluntary Assisted Dying

Agree..... my quandary is why do people struggle to stay alive when clearly they are over living.

Super boom widens wealth gap: ‘I thought this would be a stress-free life’

Now a 68 and 74, in our younger years Superannuation wasn't a thing and then being overseas for many years it also wasn't a thing. Fortunately, otherwise, we've been frugal with our money and at this stage life a modest, mortgage free life together. Elaine's comment of ‘I'm not important in...

Renaming obesity won’t fix weight stigma overnight. Here’s what we really need to do

Another attempt of changing the abnormal into normal by changing the language used.

Mystery 'sale' price tag at local store leaves shopper baffled! What's the catch?

This may be new to some, but it's really a very old practice.... My ex-MIL worked at a very well known and trusted department store in Brisbane area and told me that when "sales" were on the prices were often marked up by 1 cent or so to appear different.... that was more than 45 years ago.

Australian Seniors React To Upcoming Change: Pension Age and Income Tests Alterations on July 1, 2023

When my husband and I went to the Centrelink office in Nambucca Heads, NSW, we were told clearly that "the old age pension has absolutely nothing to do with the taxes you've paid during your working life" ..... I am grateful, however, that the Australian Government, despite whoever is in office...

Australian Seniors React To Upcoming Change: Pension Age and Income Tests Alterations on July 1, 2023

And where, may I ask, are these jobs that seniors can be accepted for to earn extra money, apart from turning some hobby into a money-making venture? This looks nice on paper, but in reality how many businesses/companies/organisations are going to rush to get us ol' farts with decades of...

Airline seat policy sparks controversy: Are plus-size travellers facing discrimination?

Many times I have sat at the boarding gate and hoped that the obese people also sitting there were not going to be in a seat next to me, because feeling someone's hot, fatty body rubbing up against mine makes a long journey even more uncomfortable. If you need a seat belt extension and an extra...

How Aussies are sharing their homes to earn extra cash amid the cost-of-living crisis

Sadly, I am not in a position, either geographically or space-wise. I would think that any earnings made would be declared to Centrelink, but the amount earned may not impact the pension as recent press said that pensioners could earn a bit more.

How Aussies are sharing their homes to earn extra cash amid the cost-of-living crisis

When I was teaching in China, I found that I learned so much more than I taught. Two weeks is very short, admittedly, but hopefully all 3 of you will benefit from the experience.

How Aussies are sharing their homes to earn extra cash amid the cost-of-living crisis

If I had the space and my husband wasn't sick, I would jump at the chance of having Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean or Japanese students in my home. I am not excluding other Asian nations, it's just that I have first hand experience with these four. They are respectful, honour their seniors and in...

Poll: If you could influence one thing, what would you choose?

Before I qualified for the old age pension, I believed that I was a valuable employee capable of any task given to me and the ability to learn new tasks quickly. I was chronically employable from the age of 16, with never a period of unemployment. However, when I returned to Australia at age...

Poll: If you could influence one thing, what would you choose?

Too many things to limit it to one................ 1.Stop the "which gender am I question?' and let kids be kids for the short time they are. 2. Address the root causes of domestic violence and increasing street knife crimes. If there were training...

McDonald’s job ad sparks outrage by ruling out a specific type of applicant

Agree, in part. Many people find volunteering valuable and rewarding. I do not, in my experience, it was only ever free labour.

Don't miss your chance to win a share of 49 million Woolworths rewards points and countless prizes

Despite all the bad press that Woolworths gets, if it weren't for Woolworths I would have to drive 1 hour to get groceries. They employ a lot of local people in an area that has few job opportunities and I am very satisfied with their rewards programme. Yes, I will join in their latest...

McDonald’s job ad sparks outrage by ruling out a specific type of applicant

We live in an ageist society in Western culture. I've detailed my experiences trying to find a job only recently on one of these posts. Whilst the retirement age in China, where I used to work, is much lower. When my age was disclosed it was met with very positive comments and respect. The...

Australian Couple Slammed for Living on Centrelink Payments

The very people that advocate lifting the pension to 70 would probably baulk at giving a senior a job. Whilst the couple in mention may be criticised for making a "lifestyle choice", how feasible is it that older folks can get a job. I returned to Australia, aged 60, after working overseas...

Frugal foodie reveals a chicken-cutting trick that can help save you hundreds off your grocery bill!

the local Woolworths usually has a 2 kg bag of Ingham's Mixed Pieces for around $9, or $7 if you can get a marked down bag. From that bag, I can get about 4-5 servings for 2. I buy whole chickens when they are on special for $7-9 and butterflied that will give me at least 3-4 meals for the 2...

Robert De Niro Welcomes Seventh Child at Age 79: A Look at the Acting Legend's Remarkable Personal Life

When my mother had me she was 35 and was the oldest Mum among my primary school cohorts. Admittedly that was 50+ years ago, now it's common, but then I felt terribly embarrassed. The child will get to grieve over the lost parent much earlier than most. Maybe it makes the parent still feel...
