    Dad’s clean and ironed hankies

We always had to have a hankie with us - nearly as important as clean underwear. Mum had white handkerchiefs for male or females and washed and boiled them separately to other washing. Then ironed them beautifully.

Crucial aged care sector reforms face setback

Unfortunately with so many on the waiting list it often takes a year or more by which time your needs may have changed to a higher level. I was told by an assessor that the wait involves someone else passing away before funding becomes available. This is not good enough for our aged citizens.

    Flower Pot Men

Absolutely loved this show as a child. Don't forget it was before the whizz bang animations we see now. My favourite was "Little Weed".

Members user names and how they came about

Being a grandparent is so important -- my eldest grandchild is named Estarra and gets called Starry all the time which is how my name became Starrysnan. She is now 5 and a great kid.

Flushed with excitement: Couple's toilet tango causes stir at local shopping centre

My husband uses a power wheelchair and it is frustrating when there is a long wait especially when a person comes out of the toilet who appears mobile, fit and well. My son in law fits this description but needs to have washing facilities in the toilet area so he uses the disabled toilet...

    Tosca

They were great and of course the saying "gone for a Tosca" became part of the national vocabulary.

    AIBU 25.03.2024

I agree that the baby won't need his/her own room for quite some time - We always had the baby in our room and that worked well. Or as other members have said they could look for a bigger place. You can still help them without living with them and losing your lifestyle.

Outraged guest reveals bride's shocking wedding charge: 'She is out of her mind!'

How sad that what should be a happy occasion with family and friends is reduced to "how much can you afford to pay". We had a garden wedding, catered by a friend and everyone helped. It was a great day and no one went broke in the process. All our friends took photos and had double prints...

    From my balcony

    What a magnificent photo.

    Laminex tables

When we came to Australia at the end of 1965 my parents bought their basic furniture at Macy's - some members may remember that store. Our six seater rectangular table was basically white with a gold fleck through the top. It was great for kids, easily cleaned and good for homework as well as...

Mum shares money-saving secret to bagging grocery shopping bargains

Hopefully your housing costs are less than many of us in houses and units. My Auntie always grew herbs and small cherry tomatoes in pots which you may be able to do on your houseboat

A touching twist: Grandmothers steal the show as wedding flower girls

Why not? I think the Nonnas had a ball.

Service NSW will not provide phone support to the elderly-

The great joy(?) of doing everything online is often marred by websites that are very unfriendly to use. Many companies these days do not want to talk to you and actually help. I am lucky to have a 36 year old daughter who can help me navigate some of the trickier websites and apps. Her help...

Kate Winslet shares revelation about her struggles with body image

It is sad when a good actress is persecuted for her weight not praised for her acting talent. Many women have weight changes normally, not because they over eat. When we were young the female figure was appreciated with some womanly curves.

Bunnings employee exposes mistreatment of workers by sexist customers

As stated by other members avoid lifting weights and they should not be above shoulder level. If I was a Bunnings staff member I would be happy that someone else wanted to lift things. My product knowledge is often the most important thing to a customer which male or female I should be...

What are your best tips for someone who is moving?

I have moved many times and like to have an essentials box with 2 changes of clothing, nightwear, toiletries, a towel, tea towel, washing up liquid, any medications etc and carry it with you in the car. That way you don't have to search through countless boxes to find these items. Happy moving!

    Bulky TV sets

Yes we had the piece of furniture TV but before that it was a piece of furniture radio which I loved as a little girl and used to sit under it to listen to my favourite kid's programme.

Expert debunks eight common sex myths that kill relationships

It's a bit like ice cream - we all like different flavours on different days with differing amounts. No one thing is right and to each his own. Finding the right partner is the major task then sorting out likes the next thing. And if you don't have a partner or are celibate by choice that's...
