ME Bank issues apology after 24-hour outage due to ‘technical fault’

I have been a ME customer since they were a credit union. When they changed to being a bank, I watched for changes, and was pleasantly surprised that their customer service remained excellent. Since they were taken over by BOQ, however, this is no longer the case. This outage clearly...

Banks delay instant money transactions to prevent rising scams

I am currently in the process of changing my banking4 arrangements. I was pleased to receive an sms requesting me to ring my new bank regarding a 'possibly fraudulent' funds transfer transaction (at after 9pm, no less) of $5,000. Once I verified my identity and assured them that the details of...

Is the era of smoking coming to an end with this new legislation? Tobacco industry set for a seismic shift!

Frankly, unless they do something to restrict sales of tobacco, it won't achieve much. I live outside a small town (pop ~1000, plus maybe half the same again in the surrounding rural areas). There are 5 outlets where cigarettes/tobacco can be bought. The bigger town 30km away has maybe 40...

Could you be risking huge fines while driving in Australia?

No objection to this if they indicate in the newsletter that it is an old/repeated article. Shouldn't be too hard to put the date in with the headline...

Could you be risking huge fines while driving in Australia?

It isn't a matter of offence. At least 4 of the articles in this afternoon's newsletter are old, so not 'news', which is the point of a newsletter! This is becoming more frequent, and doesn't make me feel like opening articles.

Could you be risking huge fines while driving in Australia?

Why not be upfront about this being a repeat of an article from last November? Seriously, I don't want to bother re-reading it, and this seems to be happening more often lately.

David Koch reveals money strategies for 2024

Despite having been affected by the high interest rates in the 1980s, I do think it is harder now to get into the property market. When my husband and I bought our first home, he worked full-time and I worked part time. Our house cost $132,000, just over 3 times my husband's income, and this was...

Disturbing rise in Australian bank branch closures revealed: ‘They’re bullies’

It is quite simple, just like supermarket self-serve. Make it gradually harder and more time-consuming to be "served", then claim that people "prefer" the mechanised option on the basis of the volume of transactions. Use that to "justify" shutting services down altogether.

Woman gets kicked out of shopping centre for being barefoot

Nothing new here. Am aware of this rule being widespread 20 years ago - just depends on who the security officer on the day is as to whether it is enforced.

Yes, they warned about it. If you haven't used it in TWO YEARS do you still need it? Not hard to avoid this - just send someone, anyone, an email.
