Mini shopping trolleys have become one of the most sought-after toys of the year.

Parents raced to ALDI earlier in 2025 when its $20 kids’ trolley vanished from shelves in record time.

Now Woolworths has unveiled a fresh upgrade to its own range, complete with new features and additions designed to win families over.

Months after ALDI’s middle-aisle frenzy, Woolworths rolled out its upgraded kids’ trolley for $40 alongside a brand-new Light and Sound truck.

The retailer confirmed on 15 September 2025 that its expanded mini Woolworths Supermarket range would be available in about 1,000 stores across Australia, starting at $10.

The range included reusable shopping bags, baskets with accessories, dress-up sets, conveyor belts, registers, and the standout trolley, which mirrored the ALDI version but with a twist. Woolworths added a replica touch screen—reflecting the real-life smart trolleys introduced in select stores earlier this year.

Images of the toys began circulating on social media in recent days, with excited parents declaring their kids would adore the products.

Food blogger Renita Henry-May, who shared pictures with her followers, praised the supermarket for adding ‘awesome’ new items each year.

‘I’ve purchased several over the years for my own children and now they’re older, I usually buy them for gifts for friends and family.’

Content creator Cheree Lawrence from Oh So Busy Mum agreed, describing the collection as the ‘cutest little things ever’.

Supermarkets have long tapped into the spending power of parents, with both Coles and Woolworths using kids’ collectables to lure shoppers since 2018.

Woolworths would be hoping this year’s kids’ toys performed better than its previous Disney collectables push, which CEO Amanda Bardwell admitted did not ‘perform at the levels that we would have expected’.

What This Means For You

Earlier this year, ALDI’s $20 trolley flew off the shelves, leaving parents and grandparents searching for similar supermarket-inspired toys. Woolworths has now stepped up with an upgraded $40 trolley and a brand-new Light and Sound truck, both part of its mini Woolworths Supermarket range.

Starting at just $10 and available in 1,000 stores nationwide, the collection also includes smaller items designed to spark children’s imaginations. Shoppers have already called the toys the ‘cutest little things ever’—and for grandparents, they could be the perfect gift to surprise the little ones in your life while creating fun moments that feel just like a real shopping trip.

While Woolworths’ upgraded toy trolley has sparked plenty of excitement, it’s not the only major change the supermarket has made this year.

Beyond the kids’ range, the retailer has also been rethinking how shoppers interact with their stores and technology.

One of the biggest shifts involved dropping a feature many regular customers had come to rely on, raising questions about what shopping trips will look like going forward.

Would you pick up one of these mini trolleys for the kids in your life—or are they more for parents than children?

I know a supermarket in Adelaide that had kids' trolleys and they were stolen....until there was one left and only regular trusted customers were allowed to use. It was hidden out in the storage area and you had to ask for it. They have always been expensive to buy - or they were then

What’s that Towing? In a lot of cases Parental control has been ‘phased out’.

I agree. In the 1980s kids in their very first term at school were taught that they have rights. 1 thing was that if they didn't want to do what a parent asked them to do they didn't have to. Some kids are smart and decide parents are adults - so are teachers. Imagine what is happening in classrooms at school. There is a lot more they were told but I won't bore you with it.

My son was born in 1981, and when he was in year 6 he came home with a list of his rights. The next morning he was presented with a list of mums rights, which he took to school for discussion. His teacher thought it was wonderful, but then she was a no nonsense mum of 6. My boy was a very easy child to raise, and we had lots of discussions on everything, consequently, the three of us a very close, actually it’s four because he has a lovely partner.

I know some parents who had a massive meeting at one school and asked the principal if he wanted to raise their children. He "back pedalled in a hurry".
They were also given very detailed graphic sex education at a very young age without parental approval. That resulted in a storm. The parents didn't ask for a meeting that time. One parent knocked on the door and a large of parents "stormed" the office. That resulted in a Staff Meeting.

I bet that gave him a nasty shock. One of my elderly friends was telling me about one of her great granddaughters sex education lessons, I think she was about 6 at the time, and was very confused about how sperm actually managed to get mummy pregnant. Her very knowledgeable little cousin informed her that they actually do a lot of swimming and like magic it happens. They really don’t totally understand, so you only tell them what they ask about, of course in my opinion. Trouble is a lot of parents neglect to tell their children much at all.

A little more than $10?

I think this is a take home toy. :)

My younger brother was an 80s kid and they where also given a kids hotline phone number to call if parents ask too much from them. That led me to joke just as well Cats can't use a phone, they would be calling the RSPCA all the time, my hoooman wont feed me enough, help.
