Ever noticed that sourdough is always fully stocked? One man thinks he’s figured out why

A man has made a bold claim that’s left thousands equal parts baffled and amused.

He says he’s never seen anyone buy Coles’ artisan bread—and he’s starting to think it’s a glitch in the matrix.

And now, his bizarre theory is sparking a social media frenzy.

Brian kicked off his now-viral post in a popular ‘Coles Complaints’ group with a confession:‘I have been scared to post this, because people are going to make fun of me or say I’m crazy, but I’ve thought something for years and I want to see if it’s just me...’

He then suggested something truly strange—Coles’ specialty bread might not be real at all.

‘All of the artisan and specialty breads at grocery stores are PROOF we are actually living in a simulation,’ he wrote.

The post quickly gained attention, as Brian explained he’d never seen anyone actually buy the bread.

‘Nobody buys this bread. Ever,’ he said.

‘I’ve never seen it in someone’s trolley, never seen someone checking out with a massive red pepper asiago loaf the size of a basketball.’

‘In all my years I’ve never walked into a friend’s home and been offered a baguette or a fresh slice of focaccia.’

‘I’ve never even heard of a “Sourdough Boule” and respectfully, I am not sure they even exist.’

He insisted that the bread was ‘just there’—untouched, unbought, uneaten.

‘The bread is a decoration. The bread is a simulation.’

Brian’s display picture, which showed him wearing a virtual reality headset, only added fuel to the fire.

‘Are you wearing that to the supermarket, Brian?’ the article quipped.

‘If so, you might be the only one living in a simulation…’

But not everyone agreed with the conspiracy.

‘WTF are you on ??’ asked one baffled commenter.

Others claimed the exact opposite was true.

‘I buy it… My Coles never even has close to that quantity. In fact, I often leave with nothing because there is nothing left,’ one user responded.

‘I love buying the boujee bread from Coles. $2.50 for a beautiful olive loaf that the bakeries sell for $8. No thanks,’ wrote another.

Several people even came forward to vouch for the bread’s existence and popularity.

‘My son bakes bread at Coles,’ one said.

‘I’m an ex-employee, and I can tell you, there are definitely people who bake that bread. A lot of it,’ added another.

Others speculated that Brian may simply be shopping too early in the day.

‘OMG, are you serious? Are you only shopping at 7 am? Go in at 6 pm and take the same photo so we can see the difference!’ someone urged.

While Brian's theory might not hold up under scrutiny, it's certainly gotten people talking about the humble Coles bakery.

If Brian’s theory about the untouched Coles bread made you do a double take, he’s not the only one asking questions.

Another shopper shared a similarly strange observation that left people scratching their heads—and firing off blunt responses.

It’s a short read, but one that adds even more mystery to what’s really going on in the supermarket bakery aisle.

  • He said he’s never seen anyone buy or eat it in real life.
  • Commenters quickly disputed the theory, saying the bread sells out fast.

Have you ever seen anyone actually buy Coles’ artisan bread—or could Brian be onto something?

Coles bead well i tried the sliced LGI bread a few days ago has be the worst bread i have ever tasted tasted like they where going back to the old day of chucking whiting(Chalk Dust) for filler and colour threw it away after 4 slices over two days thought it was my taste buds the wife tried it same result so its back to backers delight even big W is not as bad as that crap

At the Coles store I shop at, the shelves are nearly always empty..just need to get there earlier…I like all artisan bread, so I am happy to take whatever is left!!

Tried their sourdough bread the other day - stale as the next day - only good for toasting. Cost $7+ - total waste of money

Supermarket sourdough isn't authentic if it has added yeast. Added yeast speeds up the process, instead of true sourdough which doesn't contain added yeast.

I like bread that actually has some flavour, though I'm not that into sourdough's taste. Coles light rye is a good alternative when I can't get the delicious dark rye from our wood-fired bakery, as it has no emulsifier, unlike almost all sliced polystyrene. Emulsifier gives me a 3-day migraine. Apparently the latter is not as bad as USA sliced bread that, i read the other day, has the same ingredient as yoga mats, never grows mould, and springs back into shape if you try to crush it.

I buy the bread and I love it. Nearly always sold out.

All bread and other vegetable matter is garbage and has no place in the human diet. (My opinion). The human digestive system is not designed to consume plants, carbohydrates or fiber. Only fatty red meat, eggs, seafood and other animal products. This has been our diet for countless millions of years and is still basic to our ancestral dietary requirements. The currant narrative of the food pyramid is a lie, designed by the farming and food processing companies to sell their products to you, and also to keep people sick and dependent on their ally's, the drug companies. Drop all ultra processed foods, sugars, starches and seed oils and you will feel the benefits within 30 days.

Oh, so you’re another one of those.😆

Yeah, so Homo sapiens have been around for "countless millions of years".

You must be on the same drugs as the clown who said that we are living in a simulation due to a "glitch in the matrix".

Do you deal in hallucinogens?

A great deal of bread that is baked in Coles, are loaded with gluten and covered with so much flour all over the bread buns. They are irresistibly soft and nice with cheese, ham snd tomato filling, but can create so much bloating. So now we have our Coles, selling food items with loads of sugar, sodium and preservatives and bread loaded with gluten and other addatives. But thats ok, because when you become bloated from the gluten, overweight from the sugar or have your kidneys and liver affected by the high levels of sodium, Coles has an isle where you can purchase supplements to heal your kidneys and liver, detox powders to help with overweight issues and other vitamins and minerals to assist you with your bloating problems. Thankyou to the manager's and CEO of Coles who know how to take care of their loyal customers, perhaps more honestly said, they know how to innocently climb the ladder of the wealthy. 🙏🦋

Hubby only has the Coles sourdough bread, white or rye Vienna bread . I did find the larger loaf is always hollow in the middle whereas the smaller loaf is always perfect.

My only problem is they sell out quick

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Coles sourdough bread, except it's not a 'true' sourdough. Honestly, I don't think supermarkets would be able to keep up with customers if they didn't add the yeast to speed things up.

" Only" fatty red meat, eggs, seafood and other animal products. Have you spoken to a heart specialist lately?
There's nothing wrong with portion control with those kind of foods, not 'only'.

My sister in law is celiac, but bloating isn't one of the symptoms. She doesn't eat bread, purely because she doesn't like gluten free bread. Instead, she eats gluten free crackers. She rarely/doesn't eat out, due to cross-contamination.

I've never made traditional sourdough but I now have a recipe that looks amazing so as soon as I'm feeling better I'm going to make it. I should have done it sooner

I can buy true sourdough bread from my local farmers markets. Not cheap, compared to the supermarkets.
