Uunfortunately most of the flowers we purchase in Australia are imported, picked by people being paid 'bugger all'. Some get as little as $2 a week (Africa) and even supervised by Australian workers who should know better than to treat another human being like this, just for profit. I've even seen interviews with Australians who buy flower farms in these places, just to exploit this unequal equation. Justification being 'if I don't do it, someone else'. The nicest floral gift I have ever received was a weed, pulled out of a crack in the driveway, by a grandchild.

Gave my wife some flowers last Mothers Day and she called a horrible rotten arsehole? I thought she liked flowers evidently wrong sort!! Bread, self raising, plain and wholesome were the wrong sort apparently? This year I'll just give her the card!
Wise man , or completely forget and see the reaction. Then you may be appreciated for your gifts.

I told my family years ago that I don't want a mum's day gift, or for that matter, any special occasion gift.
I really don't need more stuff.
So, every year, my lovely daughter-in-law puts on a nice breakfast at their home, and my granddaughter practices her calligraphy on a lovely card. Really, I would be happy with a group phone call. I think i am becoming an old fart.

I would have loved a variety of flours . Think What I could have made.
Hope you took her out for a nice meal

I was waiting to see a special promotion for us members ,but nothing 😔

I often send mum flowers and use Bloomex which always have specials.
I usually pay between $40 to $55 for a really nice bunch including arriving in a Mason Jar.

I will do the same next week . I have already sent her a new winter robe, pyhamas and slippers

I don't want, need or expect anything special for Mothers Day. It was my decision to become a mother and I did so willingly.
I much prefer an unexpected call or visit at odd times through the year, not just when commercialisation, profiteering and the date on the calendar dictates it.

Flowers are lovely but l hate to see them slowly die so my family know to buy me a plant. l only have one daughter in Tassie who is often here for weekends so as usual we will plan what we want to eat and Debra cooks for us all which she loves doing

I've known about this for some time. Someone told me the way to check if, say, a rose, is imported from an overseas country is to smell it. If no fragrance, except a chemical type smell - it's not Australian. They treat them with chemicals so they last longer, for the distance they have to travel. I wish there was a way you could ascertain from a florist before ordering from afar, whether or not they are using Australian grown flowers. I often send my 98 year old Mum flowers and I live 2000klms away so have no choice but to use Interflora. Even making sure to only use individual florists is no guarantee, but I have found that the cheaper online sites like Bloomex don't necessarily care where the flowers come from, and they pay the florists they use a pittance. Mum has told me that the time I used Bloomex the flowers had absolutely no fragrance and did not last long.

Be careful when purchasing flowers from bloomex read the reviews. I paid extras for a large arrangement ($131) for these flowers the second photo is what I was expecting, it’s supposed to be a lavender arrangement. Complained received a phone call saying there customer care team would be in contact, still waiting, it was over a month ago.

Oh dear, seems like your wife's mother never taught her to be grateful for anything she received.
I've always loved flowers. Wish my husband was.here today to give me some my first mothers day without him
Your post reminded me of many years ago when my husband and I had a tiff. I don't remember what about, and I went off for a couple of days to visit a friend and cool down.
When I returned my husband had put flowers in every room of the house. even in the bathroom and yes, red roses in the toilet and a.big poster on the wall saying SORRY, lol

Thank you for reminding of that.
I hope your wife is grateful for her card today.
