Newspaper Kiosk

A nostalgic glimpse into Sydney’s past! This bustling newspaper kiosk in Martin Place, captured in August 1963, was once a staple of city life—offering daily papers, magazines, cigarettes, and classic treats like Lifesavers. The vibrant magazine covers reflect the era’s pop culture, from Women’s Weekly to Everybodys, a magazine that chronicled the rise of pop music before Go-Set took over in the late ’60s.

The kiosk was great in Martin Place as there were not convenience stores close by then as most buildings were offices, banks etc. Many people stopped for their newspaper on the way to and from work when there was an afternoon edition newspaper which you read on the way home on the train. No mobiles then! And strangely enough people actually spoke to each other even if it was only a "Good morning" with a smile!
