Pick-A-Box

Now that's a blast from the past! Pick-A-Box was one of Australia’s most iconic quiz shows, running from the 1950s to the 1970s. Hosted by Bob and Dolly Dyer, it was known for its intense trivia battles, with contestants locked in soundproof booths as they went head-to-head for prizes and glory.

Seeing this setup really brings back memories of a time when game shows were all about knowledge and skill rather than flashy productions. Have you ever watched it, or maybe heard stories about it from your family? Share them with us!

Yes, I do remember watching Bob and Dolly on Pick a Box. I had completely forgotten about the show. There were a lot of quiz shows on TV back in the day and they were always fun to watch.

Watched it all the time. Always enjoyed the fellow in the left booth. Can’t think of his surname. He was “Barry “. His answers always came with a huge explanation. He also questioned answers given , that he considered wrong, on man6 occasions.

Dead right there Ellie about Barry......he was the champion on Pick a Box and the most knowledgeable bloke I have ever seen.....I reckon he would even out do Dinh Dung. He used to drive poor old Bob Dyer crazy at times when he went on his famous rants. :ROFLMAO:

Correct. He did drive Bob Dyer nuts. You just might have given him a run for his money. His surname will come back to me. I have this feeling he may have become a Politician for some time - maybe wrong there.

I think the Barry you are trying to name was Barry Jones. He was an exceptional brain and later went into politics. Bob and Dolly entertained for many years on radio with his quiz shows and others like Can you take it? where contestants were dared to carry out some outlandish activity in public for money. I also recall that Bob"s biggest friendly rival on radio was Jack Davey. How many of you remember Jack? Cheers.

Some of my old time favourites apart from Bob Dyer and Jack Davey were the short episodes of programmes like: Yes What, Dad and Dave, Mrs. Obbs, Bluey and Curley, Dr, Mack, . Do some of these ring any bells? Cheers
