Supermarket rolls out one surprising transformation to their stores

While navigating supermarket aisles, shoppers seek out the best deals and freshest produce.

With that in mind, supermarkets also continue to add features that could change their customers' shopping experience.

One of Australia's supermarket giants just introduced a fresh new feature that's sure to catch their shoppers' attention.

Woolworths recently introduced video advertisements across its deli counters and checkouts in Australia.

The supermarket's in-house media agency, Cartology, confirmed that brands should soon have an opportunity to showcase their products on screens.

These video screens should be available at weight scale screens in Woolworths' deli and seafood service areas.

Cartology also installed more than 10,000 video advertisement screens at assisted checkouts.

This innovation should pique the shoppers' attention, as the screen presents various products and promos available at Woolworths.

As of writing, Cartology operates 5,300 screens within the Woolworths Group, and should increase anytime soon.

Cartology's General Manager of Product, Steve Geelan, shared more vital information about this tech upgrade.

'In-store continues to play a critical role in our customers' shopping journey,' Mr Geelan said in a statement.

'We continue to look for strategic opportunities for brands and partners to connect to customers and enhance their shopping experience.'

'Through the growth and digitisation of our in-store screen network, brands have a creative canvas to reach and influence customers through branded video content,' Mr Geelan added.

According to Mr Geelan, these adverts could drive awareness about new products, inspire meal time, or influence and leave a lasting impact at the checkout.

The installation of video screens was just one part of a broader trend in retail spaces.

Supermarkets and retail stores have seen digitisation over the past years, offering a more interactive environment for shoppers.

While some welcomed the innovation screens could provide, others viewed it as an unnecessary distraction.

Meanwhile, other shoppers saw it as a push towards impulse buying.

It's essential to stay informed of these changes, as they could subtly influence our shopping habits and decisions.

For our savvy seniors, this could mean a new way to discover products and promotions.

Yet, it is also a reminder to stick to our shopping lists and budgets.
Key Takeaways

Totally unnecessary. Just another way that these big retailers try to increase their profits by "encouraging" customers to buy things they don't really want or need by impulse buying.
Going shopping is a way to get away from screens for me & I definitely don't want to see any other screen than the one which shows me that the product has been scanned & priced correctly.

Well it's up to us who don't want to be swayed to make sure we aren't. I don't usually have a good look around in case there is something new that I might be interested in. I have my list and stick with it unless I see something on special that I did not realise was. Not all pamplets are delivered these days and I don't look on line. I prefer hard copy myself.

Instead of spending perhaps thousands on screens in their supermarkets, they obviously have money to throw away, why not instead reduce the prices of essentials instead of making profit from their customers they love to have shop at their stores.

Try to have a look for a program that was on SBS last week, it was called: IRRESISTABLE; THE THINGS WE EAT. It shows how food is manufactured/designed to be addictive, VERY INTERESTING, will open your eyes.

I will have a look for that today. it is like the free books coles and woolies have it started out with recipes now they have jars and products that you just pour in just another way of getting you to buy new things to try out the recipe

What are trying to do… people walking up and down aisles NOT able to purchase what they needed as too expensive, so they rub our noses in our misery by spending their profits on garbage no one needs and making other big companies richer.
Each time I go to supermarket prices are continually going up. Why do the big 2 supermarts just bring down all the prices - and I mean by half as prices have doubled on nearly everything- instead of doing all these stupid things and bringing in lots of new Branded lines of products that are so expensive you just gotta laugh…come on you 2- you got the money , be simple , Serve the people for once, in these times. As we have all served you in the past to put you where you are now. Bring DOWN ALL PRICES and get real .be humans.

I’m the same am not swayed by their gimmicks. Stick to my list unless anything I buy is on sale as they don’t always have items listed.

If people at the self serve check outs are watching something on the screens, will this not hold up others as they are waiting for that person to leave. I read somewhere that these screens will also have recipes showing, so how long will people be glued to the screen instead of getting on with checking out there groceries. This is just sheer stupidity!!

Sorry I just re read it's assisted checkouts, but it will slow up lines if people are watching the screens and not unloading their groceries as fast.

Their products are already over priced....we don't need to have this rubbish thrown down our throats which is designed for us to buy more and increase their profits and make their shareholders richer. Not impressed WOOLWORTHS.

I'm not one to look for entertainment when I'm shopping so I don't know that I'll even notice the screens.

However, I'm not anti-technology because one of the nicest things about the grocery apps is that it's easier than ever to stick to lists. I've created a few folders (On Sale This Week, Brands I Like, Waiting For A Sale) which I sort through on Wednesdays. Even better, though, is being able to access the Half Price Specials. I know I wouldn't catch a tiny fraction of the specials by shopping the aisles myself.
