The best thing to do with scam emails is delete them before downloading them. You can tell a scam from the sender. If I receive an email from someone I do not know I just delete it without opening it. If it is important enough and not a scam the sender will contact you by name and from a recognisable address.

Obviously this scammer is a bit brighter than the idiot who sent me a text last week saying there was a problem with my TELSTRA payment. 1 I dont have any direct debts going to Telstra, and 2. The Australia Post logo showed up at the end of the text was a bit of a give away. As it was a text i just deleted it.

I have had many & I'm completely aware that it is a scam but, then I think of older people who struggle with technology & are very trusting.

I received one of those this morning. I don’t use toll roads - and the message was dated 2.36a.m.! I put the message straight into my Spam box.

get them all the time. Not expecting anything- haha. But they don't dont email or SMS for verification ever.

What do you mean?

No government agency, bank or service provider will ever email or SMS you asking you to click on a link for any purpose. You can block the number or sender’s email address but never reply or hit unsubscribe. If you do that they know the number or email address is active and you will get even more spam and phishing messages.

Might be interesting to give your address as say ‘Brisbane Morgue’, xxx street’ and see what happens next! Providing you don’t incriminate or compromise your bank account in the bargain. Pretty sure you won’t get another one.

Once had a phone call quite sometime ago & didn’t recognise the number so answered with “Brisbane Morgue”. That was the end of that call, never got another from the same number.

many seniors still live independently and don't notice things like that and would instinctively think there is a parcel from the kids or grandkids

My son has been getting the toll ones. It's hilarious as we don't have toll roads in WA.

I think Thursday was the most scamtastic day this year, I received an email stating I had been approved be no less the US Treasury Department for a amazing sum of 8.5Mil
Well that would be nice but pretty sure it's bollocks especially when the hypertext link was a bloody Hotmail account. I'm used to being treated as a dumb blond but blind Freddy could tell everyone it's about as legit as the bill of sale for the Story Bridge on my wall lol. Then I get this robo voiced phone message saying a fraudulent transaction of $12000 was attached to my ANZ debit card and I had to press either 1 or 2 to verify I yes made this transaction or I needed to stop it. I have never had an ANZ account had one bank account for over 40 yrs don't have anywhere near that amount in the bank recieve job seeker and out of that pay close to 70% in rent per week for an 18meter square shoebox. But you got to give the greedy buggers A for effort just I'm a poor choice for rich pickings lmfao

I do love the scams saying Toll Bill or I drove away from the scene of a accident. I am visually impaired and don't drive ( probably a good thing, there are enough numpty's on the road) don't own a car. I must admit when they ring up I take an inordinately amount of time wasting theirs I answer the phone I then pretend my hearing aid batteries are dead and would they mind waiting while I pop in some fresh ones then usually go make a coffee come back if they are still on the phone I let them do their speil. and I ask them what's my name or my date of birth eventually I tell them I'm blind and I don't have a license or a car I can't drive. But I can still ride a horse and used to ride mine to the local grocery store at Meringandan to put an order in for groceries which they would deliver the next day and if I wanted to tack on something extra like a six pack they would deliver. I've got enough vision to ride a horse but not legally permitted to drive. lol

Yes they are a real nuisance. I've had one everything I am expecting a parcel. I just delete them. Last one had Australia Post Van and workers with parcels.

I have started getting messages from a mobile phone to pay my toll fees, I don't even drive. By the way, my user name is Rujam not Rujamm.

Read through it a couple of time. Bits n pieces just grab the eye and you know it's wrong. I also get the feeling that the scammers are insinuating themselves into groups such as SDC to see what our comments are so they can improvise, adapt and overcome.

I agree which is why I only given generic personal information about myself I don't shop online ever. I like to go into a store and be served by a human and I like think every time I do that I am helping to keep someone employed in the retail sector and always end with a Thank you so much and have a great day. It makes me feel good also. and never hurts because let's face it some of those young peeps in retail really have to deal with some right ass hats. lol

I got one of those on my phone the other day. I live in rural nsw and we don't even have any toll roads.

The email is not convincing at all. The post office never contact you to check any details or ask you to click on any link. I had a genuine email yesterday to say they couldn’t deliver a parcel, as I was not home. The email was backed up with a card in the letterbox to pick up parcel from post office after 5pm, which I did. End of story.

Of course you would know it was genuine if you had a card which did not ask for any details and so you picked it up. Very clever

Australia post knows your name and address. It is easy to see it is a scam
