No More Flies and Mozzies

Every 3 to 4 months I make up a solution of 150 mls each of David Grays Termite Spray, Seasol and Wetta Soil. Mix with 3 litres water and spray all your outdoor area pavers and I even spray the fly wire outside doors from the inside to outside and walls surrounding the doors. No insects in the house or around your personal outdoor space! I hate the flies in summer! More than the mozzies!

I'm willing to give it a try. Not so much for the flies and Mozzies (although they can be annoying), but more so for midgies (or sandflies). Does it also work for them? Googled the ingredients and looks like you can get them all from Bunnings.

Yes we have a stagnant pond in the park opposite and it certainly helps. Yes I get from Bunnings. Let me know if it helps. Have been using it for years! It was issued by a council to combat the Ross River Virus epidemic they were experiencing in there Shire!

Ever tried a mint plant to keep flies at bay?
I often used a mint plant on the table, in a pot, to deter flies.
It's much stronger if you enhance the smell by crushing some leaves and planting mint nearby, if outside.
The more the better!
Works best with tables that do not have a heavy load of food, as this will outweigh the smell.
Great for tea and biscuits, playing cards, or just relaxing.

I haven't I use the fans that are available from Bunnings now for the outdoor tables when eating.

We have mint planted everywhere outside. I've tried inside but mint needs plenty of sunshine.

A few weeks ago we were at my daughters inlaws and loved their new ceiling fan outside under the pergola . Her father inlaw told us he put it in as they keep away mozxies and flies.
So we installed fans and they work like magic.
We have air-con inside but also had ceiling fans installed and they work just as goid as the air con and a bonus they are much cheaper on electricityScreenshot_20250316_101844_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20250316_101854_Gallery.jpg

Many years ago when I was just starting work my employer who was a sales rep and used to travel to Rockhampton, long before stores had air conditioning, told me the stores in Rocky had overheated fans. I said that would help cool the store, his comment “All it does is pin the flies to the floor.” I’ll never forget that comment Les.

While speaking about mint, we had ants in our pantry. There was no trail anywhere. My husband even went up into the ceiling to try and see where they were coming from. Needless to say, we still don't know. But I had some mint essence which would have been used many years ago for mint flavour in biscuits. I wiped the drawers over with the mint and they were gone within the day. We still don't know why they visited us. Adelaide has been so dry, we wondered whether they were looking for water. Everything in the pantry was sealed so they had nothing to eat. The only downfall was that when I opened the pantry, I felt hungry with the smell of the mint.
