Check-up challenge: Government denies further bulk-billing boost despite surge in GP visits

Ummmmmm ... there was a thing on the news just a couple of nights ago saying that changes the government has made recently will mean there will be an increase in bulk billing availability for pensioners and other groups on welfare. I interpreted it as not for everyone, just those mentioned...

Driving shift: Senior road safety debate heats up in this Aussie state

I would like to see a chart showing deaths, age bracket of the one driving if they were the one at fault, and whether they were impaired by drugs or alcohol or medical reasons etc.

March 2024 Pension Indexation: What to Expect

Our house was built in part by my Hubby in that the walls were done by a bricklayer but the rest by Hubby, his Dad and his BIL with building inspectors there regularly. Block bricks inside and out, and at the time that the new rules for roofing for cyclone areas was about to come in Hubby not...

Thousands experience skyrocketing insurance bills to 300 per cent: ‘I was fuming’

I wish my premiums where what is written in the article. I wouldn't be complaining paying "only" a couple of thousand a year. I live in North Queensland and paying over $4000 a year. We have made 1 claim in 38 years and that was for fusion and that was like 35 years ago. Premiums go up by $800...

With the rising cost of insurance and rates and maintenance, owning a house has its costs. Our house insurance, cos we live in northern Queensland has gone up $800 a year for 3 years in a row. We pay 40% of our monthly income in house insurance and rates. And it's only going to get worse. We had...

Leaked emails expose how supermarkets profit more while customers ‘get screwed’

In the past exposure would make people/businesses retract. Not anymore. We read about it but nothing changes. We are at the mercy of the government. The supermarkets. Business. Nothing will change. Not even protesting does much anymore.

Struggling to claim your age pension? Centrelink explains why thousands face agonising waits

I read on the website 13 weeks before you can apply. That's what I'll do. I'm 67 next April. I'll apply in January. Hubby is on a part pension and has been for a while as he's 10 years older than I am and worked past pension age.

Struggling to claim your age pension? Centrelink explains why thousands face agonising waits

On the website it says people can apply 13 weeks before they are eligible. That is what I will do next year when I can apply for a pension as it seems it's going to take a loooooog time before it's approved. Sad the government doesn't do more to speed things along.

Trouble looms over Queensland with upcoming cyclone Jasper and the sudden resignation of Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk

I thought Palaszczuk was great until the past 12 months. So disagree with spending money on Olympics. Spend it on the cost of living etc. We are going to be at the bottom of the cyclone. It's Monday at 5 to 4 and we have a a decent breeze going now for an hour and it's not due to cross till...
