Got a dog? You might be required to spend time with them soon—here’s why

Hospitals are always freezing the temp being set for the comfort of staff. Meanwhile the poor patiemts are often half naked in a hospital gown. I attend dialysis five hours a day three days a week. Its so cold in there we all have to wear winter clothes and have heated throws, winter and...

Before you pack your bags, here’s how travel could change your Centrelink payments

I can't travel anyway due to illness, but it seems fair that the energy supplement in ceased as you're not paying energy bills if you're out of the country. It's annoying that you'd have to apply for a new pension card when you returned if away for a long period.

Seniors Love Private Health Cover – But Can They Afford It?

I will have to keep my private health cover as I am a dialysis patient. To go to a public hospital for this would be harder, and I'd have to travel further. Spending the day in an uncomfortable recliner chair three days a week is no picnic. I'd hate to rely on the public system as I know...

Retiring But Not Relaxing: Australia’s Age Pension Maze

I found the pension application process was the most stressful thing I have ever done, and I have worked in life and death situations. Because I had a business, I had to get my accountant involved, and even he found the process overly complex. I also had to ring Icare to find details of two old...

'It was a mess': Mum shares horror story after undergoing popular treatment!

Only seek cosmetic medicine treatment from a qualified doctor. Beauticians should not be doing this sort of treatment. They are not trained in infection control etc.

Are these boots considered 'bogan' or chic? Fashion fans say their piece!

When I had my own general practice a few years ago, a female friend did a locum for me. I was always well dressed at work wearing heels etc. According to my receptionist. she turned up in Ugg boots. When I found out I was horrified. Not a good impression.

Yes of course, but I feel that Agomelatine should be listed on PBS. I have seen great results with this drug.

Experts reveal shocking dangers of long-term antidepressant use in seniors

The antidepressant Agomelatine is much better as it does not have the side effects of SSRIs , with no withdrawal syndrome. It can affect the liver, however we monitor for that with regular blood tests. The liver affect is usually in patients who already have liver problems. It works through the...

Older Australians are also hurting from the housing crisis. Where are the election policies to help them?

I sacrificed an awful lot , didn't travel etc, worked hard in my profession and still work part time at 73. I paid 17 percent interest in the early nineties on two properties. Had to work on weekends to do so. I built a house on 5 acres in Sydney, and have good access to everything I need...
