From $2,000 to $0: Aussie Slashes Energy Costs with Massive Rebate

I’m not sure that an outlay of $30,000 is good value at my time of life (78 y.o.). I reckon that breakeven would be at least 10-12 years and I can’t be sure of being in this house for that long. Most of my power bill is spent on heating in the Canberra winter so I’m spending my money on double...

He’s 66, sick, and grieving—now they want to evict him

At the time of the Voice referendum, I seem to remember that $4 bn was spent on Aboriginal support agencies. More recently, a figure of around $30 bn has been debated. Why is some of this money not available to help people like this man?

Would you have spotted the red flag on this $2,849 receipt? This man didn’t—and it nearly cost him big

It's true, they are getting very smart but this wasn't one of them. The report points out some real errors in the fake receipt that betrays the scammer. There are some important learning points in this transaction that we should scrutinise the detail very carefully. The video example shows a...

No husband, no kids, no regrets—why her $1.6m retirement plan has everyone talking

She is not necessarily foregoing love, just kids. I've known many childless couples who have a very loving and fulfilling life. It's when she gets to old age and may well need welfare support, the best of which comes from ones family, that she may wish she had made different choices.

Stop throwing away $2500 a year! The truth about food labels every Australian needs to know

We treat 'use by' and 'best before' dates as a caution, then make our own decision as to whether it's safe or not. It's a bit of a risk but we've survived that way for many decades. I'd like to think that very little is wasted from our house. I'm pretty sure it's nowhere near $2500 worth p.a.

Aussies make common bin mistake, get tagged without realising

Use them for your household waste instead of buying yet more plastic bags for bin liners.

'Am I in the wrong for not cooking 'fancier' meals—even if my partner keeps asking?'

I could cook for myself if I had to but my wife is so much better at it so I'm grateful for every meal she puts in front of me.

Gen Z turns household appliances into storage in growing trend

I don't think many of us learned about "pie in maths class". You must have gone to a very unusual school. Otherwise, I'm not sure we should pass on the teaching of life skills to school teachers. Surely that's the job of parents and families. Teachers have a difficult enough job teaching basic...

Homeowners can save thousands in mortgage thanks to one payment tip

Good advice. Continue to pay the higher amount off your mortgage as long as you can afford it.

Major bank threatens account closure over unexplained home cash

Why are some people so quick to air these matters on social media? If you have a problem with the bank, phone THEM or go to a branch and discuss it. There is no value in sharing the matter with the rest of the population.

Are these boots considered 'bogan' or chic? Fashion fans say their piece!

They're a great invention in footwear but like Crocs, flip-flops and wellies, there are places where they're not the most appropriate choice.

Broadcaster and writer urges ocean protection to save humanity

It’s interesting that a number of people in this thread question or dispute DA’s views on anthropogenic climate change. I am one of them, and with a degree in Geology and Zoology (as did David), I have many reasons for disputing climate change, so I am surprised that David hasn’t been more...
