What July 1 brings for Aussie seniors

I am worried by the new rules telling us that we must slow down to 40km/h (in Vic) when passing an emergency or rescue vehicle with their lights (orange, blue and red or whatever) flashing. I recently travelled to Melbourne on the M8 and on a left hand bend near Ballarat I noticed a B-double...

Wow!! an Austin 7 that isn’t black. That’s a rare one especially in those days.

Petrol price hits $2 mark as Middle East conflict drives global oil surge

Use the fuel apps like Petrol Spy. By using it yesterday I found that the dearest price for diesel in my area was $2.07 and the cheapest was $1.67 a 40 cent difference. When buying up to 80 litres at a time it makes a big difference.

Major bin changes coming soon—what households should know about new fees and rollout plans

In our area (Wimmera, Vic) we are encouraged to put our food scraps etc into our green bins. Why is Brisbane doing it differently?

Cheaper solar batteries slash energy bills, spark concern among homeowners

A FIT (feed in Tarif) of 6 cents!! what a dream. I live approx 100 kms from Great Western (Vic) and our FIT dropped from 4.9 cents down to 3.3 cents last year. How does this compare with others around the state, country or globally?

    Million-dollar retirement? Here's why it’s not actually a must-have

I hope you’re not using the “replacement cost” in valuing your assets. The Government only requires the “fire sale” value when determining you total asset value ie what would you get if you had to sell it TODAY.

Age Pension assets test: What counts, what doesn’t, and how it affects your retirement payments

Has anyone come up with a calculator/spreadsheet that anyone with a computer can load up and fill out their details to determine their Centrelink position. I am sure that such a thing would help many keep their assets within the boundaries that would enable them to retain a reasonable pension.

Domestic Water Tanks: The Tech Guy – Dr Al

A few years ago we built a house on a sloping block. In the build we had to option of having a “room” under the house which was accessible from the garage. We made use of this room by installing a couple of 250litre water barrels. The outlet from the washing machine was diverted into these...

Third major price hike drives customers away, time to switch providers

My wife and I are both on Telstra prepaid plans that only cost us $39 pm. (Originally $30 then $35 then another sneaky $4 increase). The only reason for us sticking with Telstra is that we often travel interstate and into remote areas and T has given us better reception in these areas. Prepaid...

Two Romanian men charged over NSW card skimming scam that netted more than $800K

I have seen many reports of skimming equipment being installed on to ATMs and warnings about them BUT I have never seen anything that tells me what to look out for on an ATM. Statements like “if it looks odd” don’t really help. What should we look for??

    RED FLAGED

It’s ok using the “report” button in Outlook but that only reports the one email and blocks the one email account that it was sent with. If you highlight the email address that it came from you will see that on EACH scam email there is a different address shown. There are a lot of email...

Aussie TV icon faces criticism over controversial Facebook post! What did he say?

I, fondly, remember the Saturday nights I sat in front of the 12 inch tv with my mum and dad watching the Black and White Minstrel Show. Now then what will that stir up?
