Retired But Not Tired: Aussie Seniors Turn to Side Hustles to Boost Pensions

I relief teach one day a week to supplement our income (self-supporting retirees). It pays well but is often a tough gig. I’ve worked casually at it for 2 years, I can understand why teachers are leaving in droves. This December will be it for me, time to fully retire.

Sick of cleaning up after someone else’s dog? You’re not the only one!

Many mornings we have dog poop on our front lawn, which we have to clean up. It’s annoying. We believe our neighbour just lets his dog out for a “stroll”, nice and early. Definitely not our dog, he’s fenced in to our side and back yard. What’s is it with some people??

New scam outsmarts security measures—what every Aussie should know

Yes I agree I was totally stupid! Thanks for reminding me. Mine was a couple of years ago, the warnings weren’t as prevalent as they are now. Also, the scammer seemed to know I’d been logged into myGov the previous day. I woke up around 6am (probably half asleep checking my emails), had a real...

New scam outsmarts security measures—what every Aussie should know

Absolutely! A couple of years ago, I started with a new employer, and requested they use my current Superannuation account. Of course they didn’t, and they opened a new Super account. Anyway, I had to merge my Super accounts, and get rid of the new one, all thru MyGov. Next morning, I had an...

Are Aussie cafes secretly charging you extra? The shocking 30 per cent fee one customer just discovered

I must be old or something, I would never consider sitting down at a cafe or restaurant if I’d bought something from a takeaway menu! It makes sense to me to take my food/drink and go!

    Greek Shortbread

Wow! Five eggs. Eggs are like hen’s teeth in my local area.

What’s a hobby you’ve picked up lately that makes you feel years younger?

My volunteer job is my hobby, I visit a 9 year old girl weekly, who lives in foster care. When outdoors, we play frisbees, take walks, even jump on the trampoline!

No big deal, I buy it for $5 on special, and none of it goes to waste! I’ve seen more expensive dips.

Deb’s Dollar Dazzlers: Three tasty meals, clever savings, and a $250 cookbook win!

It is expensive, I grab it when it’s on special, there’s plenty left for bikkies, cheese, pate and dips! And a bottle of bubbly. We treat ourselves every now and then, seeing we rarely eat out!

With the airfryer chicken, you have to be careful that the drumsticks are cooked right through. Seems like the end has dropped off my recipe, as I had another 5 minutes of airfrying, giving it 25 minutes. Just 20 minutes is not long enough. To test, you could use a thermometer (I don’t own one).

Deb’s Dollar Dazzlers: Three tasty meals, clever savings, and a $250 cookbook win!

I’m sure you could replace pate with dip (eg hommus). I actually make my own hommus, and add chilli, so I might try that sometime instead of using pate.

Stir Fry Chinese Greens With Mushrooms

My staple dinner when “batching”, but always added some chilli, and a piece of fish. Perfect. A complete meal in a pan.

Deb's Dollar Dazzlers: How Social Media Changed Competitions, More Survey Sites, and Slow-Cooked Turkey Drumsticks

“Tread your own path”. Just looking at my records: in 2024 I collected the following in supermarket gift cards - $235 from Octopus; $100 from Purkle; $100 from Connect Panel (news.com.au). I also won $14,000 worth of prizes from competitions.
