We are weeks away from Christmas, yet savvy Australians are already snapping up holiday decor to welcome the festive spirit as early as possible.

This year, many Aussies are embracing a surprising trend—and it's not what you'd expect from a sunburnt country.

Why Aussies are embracing the winter wonderland

The frosted, snow-dusted look typically reserved for Northern Hemisphere winters has become the trend for Australian homes this season.

As Christmas tree stylist Renee Speranza from Sydney's Blitz My Tree explains: 'Lights are key to any Christmas tree, and pre-lit trees that save you time and energy instaling lights are a game-changer.'

Yet it's the unexpected embrace of frosty aesthetics that's really turning heads this year.

'In Australia, people have been reluctant to do a frosted tree as it doesn't snow here, but it's becoming more popular as people want softer tones,' trend experts note.

The appeal lies in the sophisticated palette: 'They want crystal and champagne colours and so are leaning towards this frosted look.'

The great retailer tree race: what's on offer

The competition between Australia's biggest retailers has never been fiercer, with each chain launching impressive ranges designed to suit different budgets and preferences.

Bunnings leads with variety and value

Bunnings offers an extensive range, from their budget-friendly $29 Mirabella 1.8m Noble Christmas Tree to premium options like the $299 2.1m Whistler Pre-Lit model.

Their popular middle-ground options include the Mirabella 1.8m Cashmere Christmas Tree at $99 and various pre-lit models ranging from $79 to $249.

ALDI's focus on luxury

ALDI is bringing back its fan-favourite Luxury Pre-lit Christmas Trees, available starting Wednesday, 29 October. Their trees come in in 7 and 6-feet sizes, priced at $ 149 and $ 89.99, respectively.

The timing suggests strong confidence in early-season demand.

Kmart's premium statement piece

Kmart's standout offering is its 2.4m (8ft) Cashmere Pre-lit Christmas Tree, priced at $149, which delivers a luxurious appearance despite its accessible price point.

This tree has become particularly popular for its traditional look combined with the trending frosted aesthetic.

The pop-up revolution that's changing everything

One of 2025's biggest festive trends is the pop-up Christmas tree, designed to unfold in seconds with minimal assembly required.

They're perfect for small spaces, busy households, or as a stylish second tree, with some coming pre-lit or pre-decorated for effortless setup.

Social media users are raving about the convenience: 'Putting it up takes less than 2 mins and taking it down less than 30 seconds! Never want to go back to old trees again!'

Expert styling tips for the perfect tree

Professional tree stylists recommend dressing trees in segments—starting from the top, then the middle and finishing at the bottom.

This approach helps ensure the tree looks balanced. Once you're done, stand back and look for any holes; then fill them with small baubles.

For the trending frosted look, experts suggest keeping to a cohesive theme. White trees look best with tones of pink, or all silver or all gold.

For a silvery appearance, cool white LED fairy lights work perfectly.

When positioning your tree, remember that while Christmas trees look great placed in window areas, slightly offsetting it against the window gives you the best of both worlds—showcasing your tree while allowing natural light to pass through.

What to consider when choosing your tree

  • Pre-lit options save significant setup time and frustration

  • Frosted/cashmere styles work beautifully with gold, silver, or champagne decorations

  • Pop-up trees are ideal for those wanting minimal fuss

  • Consider your ceiling height

  • Shop early for more options

Why the early bird gets the tree

The festive season might feel far away, but major retailers like ALDI, Bunnings and Kmart have already launched their Christmas offerings, recognising that organised shoppers want to secure their perfect tree early.

Whether you're drawn to the convenience of a pop-up tree, the elegance of a frosted cashmere model, or the classic appeal of a traditional pre-lit design, the 2025 Christmas tree landscape offers more choice, better value, and easier setup than ever before.

Well you can tell it`s just about time for Christmas!! The gear is already starting to pile up. OOps we haven`t finished with Halloween yet, it`s a bit congested in the shops.
Yes, I can remember when Christmas felt like Christmas, (At my aun`ts) the smell of pine (real pine) we used to make a lot of our own decorations (i.e lanterns) from old cards, garlands from crepe paper. There were a few baubles and the excitment of Christmas day, we always received something, only small, and Christmas lunch was a baked chicken with lots of vegetables and after eating it, was Christmas pudding with custard and in which we would find a silver three pence. We would go out and look at Christmas lights, Oh yes, and it was always a time for Christmas Bush and Christmas Bells which we would collect in the bush (I think that it could have been illegal). This is what makes memories!! To-day Christmas is such a drag, we get together, and try to have a good day, but it costs so much money, everyone is tired and broke, I make the same old things and we have the same old food, the magic is gone!!

This is going to be my first Xmas in quite a few years with my girls and their kids as it’s hasn’t interested me in so long. But we’re not getting any younger so I thought I’d better make an effort cos I don’t know if it’ll be my last.🌞
