Self-service checkouts have been a modern marvel for shoppers.

While it has taken the world by storm, did you know that Australia is home to the world's first-ever self-service checkout?

The first self-service checkout counter was introduced by Woolworths in 2008.

This innovation changed the way people shop by allowing customers to scan and pay for their items without cashier assistance.

The scales weighing vegs and fruit at manned check-outs may also vary. Not many scales provided for shoppers' use.
 
marvellous: instead of queueing at the paydesk, we now queue for so called self=servicee and then you have to wait for an assistant as the machine refuses to work
