Melk kos

My gran, (we always called her new granny as she lived in the city 3 hours from our home. She was my mom’s mom. Taught us how to make Melk Kos (milk food) I haven’t made it in a while.
It’s very basic, made from boiled hot milk mixed with flour and butter and salt sugar and cinnamon. We kids loved it, my kids loved it, but I’ve never made it for my grand babies. We used to make Melk tert which had egg in it, made from a rough (roo) can’t remember the spelling 😬 and a fridge cake made with Marie biscuits and thick custard and frozen condensed milk mixed with lemon juice. Layered Marie biscuits custard, more Marie biscuits and the condensed milk then topped with fresh cream and cherries and or crumbled flakes of chocolate. I grew up on a ranch, in Zimbabwe in the North Western area called Matabeleland. Right next to the Hwange game reserve. We had our own milk herd of cows. So we made our own butter, cream and buttermilk.

The fridge cake sounds great I guess the condensed milk is taken out of the tin before freezing. I won't be trying the Melk Kos because I tendency to muck those sorts of things up.

I put the tin in the freezer. Mostly I love to eat it with a teaspoon if I get a craving for chocolate 😬😁

ok I’ll try to make one. Although I’ve never had one. It’s the ratio of the flour to the milk being boiled. Depending on how many kids were waiting to eat. And how thick you want it. I love mine thick and lumpy. 🫣
