Wasleys, 5400

The town of Wasleys is now situated on an area first known as Ridleyton which was named after John Ridley, who laid out the village of Ridley in 1873. Wasleys is a small town north-west of Gawler, South Australia. Roseworthy College is located around 6 km (3.7 mi) south of the town.

Wasleys is a typical rural environmment, welcoming and inclusive. I havent graaced the pub for several years but it was very good on my last visit.

Brukunga, 5252

Brukunga is a tiny town approx 40km from Adelaide. I has previously been a pyrites mining town but that has long been closed. Despite the mine closing, there is a huge slag heap that dominates the town. There is a large CFS training facility at Brukunga, but nothing that provides employment to the area. All shopping needs to be undertaken in nearby Nairne, and thats where you need to head also to find your local pub.

The biggest downside to what would be a otherwise idyllic setting is contamination of soil and ground water.

Callcup Hill is best known as the "Widow Maker," a notoriously challenging, long, and steep sand dune in the D'Entrecasteaux National Park in Western Australia that is a popular destination for experienced four-wheel drivers. Vehicles must have low-range four-wheel drive and drivers need to reduce tire pressure significantly to have a chance of conquering the dune, which has claimed many vehicles in the past. 🧭
