The last game of marbles that I played was at Richlands State School QLD in 1962. I used to have a favourite ' blood' marble, called a blood as it was mostly red. When the bell, to return to class rang, kids would kick the marbles in the ring everywhere.

I was surprised the other day when my 5 year old grandson was visiting and a marble fell out of his pocket.
I asked him where did he get it and he replied that his mum got him and his 4 year old brother marbles and how much they love playing with them.
He then replied how they won't play with them when their cousins are visiting as they don't want them putting them in their mouths.
He then told me how he loves all the games his mum and dad played when they were little including elastics which his 8 year old sister now plays at school.

My older brother and I each had a great collection of marbles and the big ones we called Tolleys. I think our last game would have been November 1965 shortly before we left England. They were a great thing to play with and not very expensive to collect.

I loved marbles, we'd get underneath the house where the dirt was & my brothers & I played marbles, School grounds were popular with marbles, & I can't understand why today's kids don't play marbles. Even at 77yrs old, Everytime I see marbles in the shops I'm tempted to buy them & get someone to play them with me.

in 1956, I played marbles at school and in the final term that year I won 2,000 marbles (that is not a typo, I did win that and more) I gave the kids who didn;t have marbles to play with, pockets full. An easy way to make friends.
I took home 2,000 and made a sling shot and shot the lot away on our sheep and cattle property.
