Because every family has a story: Discover yours with MyHeritage DNA

Some stories feel like they’re pulled straight from the movies.

Like the story of Susan (Suzy) Fraser—a woman who spent most of her life trying to find and connect with her birth family, only to discover, decades later, that she had several siblings*.

The twist? Their late mother had given birth to another daughter years before, also named Susan (Suzy).

It’s the kind of goosebump moment that MyHeritage DNA helps create every day*.

Suzy’s incredible discovery started with a DNA test*. Within weeks, her results connected her to several half-siblings*—people she’d never met but was deeply connected to.

The group wasted no time. They shared stories, swapped photos, and uncovered uncanny similarities, from their love of coffee to their cheeky sense of humour.

For Suzy, it was more than a match—it was the missing piece of her identity finally falling into place*.

People should really have a good think about spending money on a DNA test. My daughter did one trying to find out if there was Chinese blood in our DNA. The reply was not as expected, to say the least. We happened to know most of our history up to the 15th century back. According to the DNA test we did not even come from the Netherlands in spite of the fact that this is where I was born and my family for the last 400 years.

I have no plans on wasting cash on these schemes, years ago we had through an offer on where we came from, the only truth in it was the fact that we all do come from the same part of Britain, some of it factual but mostly fanciful. The only resounding thing is large families, so good hardy stock and no television plus over the years Welsh miners from the Rhonda, Scots from Glasgow Irish from Belfast even a smattering of the old hun, A few sailors but mostly landsn men, what need I of books, anyway enough of this old mans memories.

I have one sitting here ready to do it but as I already know my history I will get hubby to do it.

My 1/2 sister did it and she actually found our fathers birth family, he was adopted at birth.

My granddaughter did hers and she also showed up on my 1/2 sisters.

My daughters friend who is from sydney did hers a couple of years ago. Her mother told her that her father died when she was 2.
Turns out her father was alive and living in Taree.
He told her that her mother ran of with another man when she was 2 and she refused to let him know where they were.

Her mother died a few years before she found out about her father.
She has also found out that she had 1/2 brothers and sisters. She has since moved to Taree and has a close relationship with her father and 1/2 siblings

Many believe their DNA should be from where they or their family were born and lived. That is culture. Where did they come from originally before arriving there? It's reflective of the original location. Boundaries of countries/states have changed over time, even the country itself through takeover and this can put a spanner in the works as well. It is quite complex.

Yes, I did it with Heritage and also with Ancestry, I know I have German Heritage, my mother`s surname was Berg and her Grandfather was born in Germany and immigrated to Australia in the mid 1880`s. But this did not turn up on Heritage, however did with Ancestry. Heritage indicated that I`m mostly from Irish, Welsh, English and Portuguese?? heritage. Then Ancestry left out the Portuguese connection. I was told that my father had a relationship with a Japanese woman while in the navy, and that he had a child with her. I was hoping to find this connection but NO. This whole experience left me confused and no better off than before I started. If you are interested I`d probably go with Ancestry.

My mother & a few other relatives of hers did a DNA many years ago from a kit from USA & sent back to check. It was hit & miss, so forget it.
My mother's side has a few ancestors who arrived here. First one was born in Ireland in 1784 & arrived here being a convict for sheep stealing. Died in Armidale NSW in 1865.
Another one from London arrived here in 1839 on a migrant ship (NSW assisted Immigrant Passenger).
Another one from Ireland was sent here, due to belonging to an Irish Whiteboy gang. He also died in Armidale, NSW.
I've only named a few, however we have lots relatives in that Armidale cemetery.

I've no interest really in delving into my Family heritage........I met my grandparents from both sides of the Family as a child, all of whom were lovely people and I was fortunate to have great parents and still have my only sibling still alive and living with me...I'm not interested in going any further back than that.

Several years ago, I did some research on a free ancestry facility at the local library and found my earliest predecessor on my Dad's side came from England in 1824.

However, my ancestry is unfortunately French, dating back to the 11th century. In addition, there is a small town with which I share my surname which dates back about 7,000 years!

Seriously, Balcon may refer to the Picts of medieval Scotland or Balcons du Daphines of France.
