Hit-and-run incident leaves senior man hospitalised: 'I can't even walk now'

As seniors step into retirement, they now have more time to enjoy their hobbies and go out for leisure.

However, a recent story of a senior man made people's hearts ache and blood boil in anger.

Cyclist John Lorenzin has been spending a chunk of his golden years recovering in hospital.

His supposedly typical afternoon ride along Fisheries Road in Devon Meadows ended in a disaster.

The 79-year-old has been in the hospital after a shocking hit-and-run incident that left him with life-threatening injuries.

At around 2:15 pm, John was riding north when a grey BMW SUV without number plates slammed into him.

The most disturbing part? The driver responsible did not stop to help the senior cyclist.

John was thrown several metres from his bike, which was left in pieces.

'I remember when I come to, I was sitting in the ambulance and then they show me my bike in pieces,' John recalled from his hospital bed.

The crash left John with a broken pelvis, a broken shoulder, and two fractured vertebrae.

'I can't move my shoulder. I can't walk even now,' he lamented.

For someone as active as John, his injuries had a physical and emotional impact on him.

'They'll know what they have done; it's disgusting,' His wife, Elvira, stated.

'I'm not angry for him. I feel sorry for him. They must be d*** heads,' John added.

A recent CCTV footage caught the incident on camera.

The vehicle sped off and left John injured on the side of the road.

However, the BMW lost a side mirror in the crash, which was found at the scene.

'We'd expect from that, the people driving would know they have hit someone,' Senior Sergeant Dave Hewitt commented.

Just 20 minutes after the incident, police received reports of a grey BMW driving erratically in nearby Koo Wee Rup.

CCTV footage of the vehicle has since been released, and authorities have been urging anyone with any related information about the incident to come forward.

Incidents like this remind us of the vulnerability cyclists and pedestrians often face on the road—especially seniors who would like to stay active.

The community has rallied around John and Elvira and offered their support for the senior couple.

If you or someone you know was in the area at the time, or if you have any information about the grey BMW SUV, please get in touch with your local police or Crime Stoppers.

We wish John a speedy and full recovery.

I wish him a speedy recovery and hopefully they find the person who did this.

We have experienced two bad accidents near to us both within 24 hours.

One was the loss of two young lives and another in a critical condition. The 20 year old driver is in a critical condition and it was his brother and cousin who was killed they were 22 and 23 . Speeding and wet roads were a factor.
My daughter who is working at St George Hospital saw a large group of people outside ICU and recognised a friend. Turns out it was her friends cousins who was killed and in a critical condition.

Then 24 hours later a 60 year old lady was run over at a set of lights and died at the scene. Apparently, the lights are confusing while it has a green walk at the same time cars also have a green light and on a dark rainy night as that night , vision is very low

Both these accidents were on King Georges Rd. One Wiley Park the other Blakehurst.

Your one of the jerks that l was referring to yesterday. Does it make you feel good to pick up folks when they make mistakes? You must be a very bitter person
I pretty much said the same thing in another post.
She has been criticising me with the free items I have been giving away.

As for the spelling I write one thing and my phone writes something else 🙃 😅

You're very generous giving things away. Take no notice seems they don't have anything better to do POOR THINGS.

I'm horrified that someone would do this and just drive off. I hope they find the offender and throw the book at him. Wishing you all the best in your recouperation.
