$445 call out and service fee

Hi, would like to share with my experience with Acorn chairlift.
Whilst under 12 month warranty there is no charge for call out and service fee which was good for me as I had to call the Acorn chairlift technition twice to replace parts and try and work out why the chairlift was making so much crackling sounds.
After one year had passed, I encountered more problems with the chairlift making lots of rough bumps, randomly stopping half way up and travelling at a very slow pace.
This is where I had to pay $445 for the call out and service fee. This is a substantial amount of money for a call out and service fee for a pensioner. On top of that, I was charged another $100 which I was told about upon completion of the work. I said to the technition you should have told me before charging me the extra $100 for a part, to which I was told, if I don't pay, the technition would remove the new part that was fitted on the chairlift. Fortunately I was able to contact a friend who kindly lent me the $100.
I dont think that Acorn can justify charging $445 for a call out and service fee with additional costs for parts to elderly pensioners who perhaps are the majority of clients.
The chairlift is new and was used correctly, how then are there faulty issues with the chairlift and I need to pay for the faults.
I don't think Acorn are fair in their pricing or the way they communicate with the elderly.
Read the reviews on ACORN chairlift to better understand what I am trying to convey. God bless. Kind regards 🙏🦋

Contact the ACCC. Even if the chairlift is out of warranty the product must be fit for purpose, considering the cost of the item and must be repaired free of charge under Consumer Law.
You can google this information. It is a bit long for me to write out here.
Perhaps if you have a family member who could follow this through for you.
Many companies rely on the fact that consumers do not know that they have rights under consumer law that far exceed the warranty period.
My suggestion would be, unless you are a very confident person. perhaps get a male family member to handle this for you.
I had this problem with a fridge and I had to get extremely loud and insistent to get them to listen to me, they think they can bamboozle you because you're a woman.
They found out different and fixed the problem at no cost to me.
Also if you bought the item through a second party, not the manufacturer, then it is their responsibility to sort the problem out.
Quite often a store will tell you to sort it out with the manufacturer. Under consumer law this is their problem not yours. Don't let them fob you off.
Good luck.

12 months warranty, especially following multiple prior issues, is simply not good enough and contrary to the provisions of the Consumer Law. Talk to the good people at https://www.qld.gov.au/law/your-rights/consumer-rights-complaints-and-scams/consumer-complaints

I have a simualar situation with my hospital lifting bed.It has a 10 yr warranty and is why I bought it.In 8 mths had them out 3 times to fix the issue. Yes I fell out of bed one night ,not a happy situation as I live alone. It is now in the hands of the importer for total replacement. God bless and enjoy this Easter time.

You don't need them to do anything for you. You can do it yourself by just knowing the law and where you stand.
Most companies will soon back down if you know where you stand legally and make enough noise.
Hi, yes i did try to resolve the issue myself by stating to the technition that I should not have to pay four hundred and forty five dollars for a technition to come and fix the problem and then be charged another one hundred dollars on top of that for parts. My response by the technition was that he doesn't make the decisions concerning the prices on service and call out fee and spare parts fee. However he has the right to take out the newly installed part of I did not pay the one hundred dollars for the part he installed. I did not want to argue with the male technition but I knew something just did not seem fair or ethical. God bless, kind regards 🙏🦋
