Are you heading out for Easter weekend? Here's this weekend's fuel forecast

As Easter approaches, Australians are gearing up for road trips and the much-anticipated family gatherings.

Yet, Aussie motorists may have another reason to celebrate the festivities.

Petrol prices have been declining and have offered reprieve for drivers across the nation.

With the extended Easter and ANZAC Day holidays on the horizon, the price's timing could be great news for those planning to hit the road soon.

Economic ripples on the global stage have affected several policy decisions earlier this year.

Tapis, a regional benchmark for oil, saw a significant 'freefall' in prices after United States President Donald Trump announced additional tariffs on countries including Australia.

This international tension led to a US$10 (A$16) per barrel fall in crude oil prices over the last week.

Wholesale prices for regular unleaded petrol also dropped by eight cents, landing at 157.6 cents per litre.

This decrease in prices could be great news for Aussie motorists, as they could see money in their wallets after filling their vehicle's tanks.

The average price for regular unleaded petrol in Sydney has hit the bottom of the cycle at 168.5 cents per litre.

According to the My NRMA App, almost three-quarters of Sydney service stations are offering regular unleaded for less than 170 cents per litre.

Meanwhile, Melbourne's petrol prices have been at the top of the cycle, with a steep price of 199.1 cents per litre.

However, NRMA shared a tip for Melbourne locals and motorists.

'Fill up outside the city as prices are likely to be lower regionally,' an NRMA spokesperson shared.

Brisbane and Adelaide also saw a gradual decrease in petrol prices after reaching the peak of their cycles.

Unleaded petrol is now priced at 177 cents per litre and 172.1 cents per litre, respectively.

Perth residents have been enjoying a rate of 165.8 cents per litre.

The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC+) has been anticipating an increase in the global market's oil supply in May.

This increase in oil supply could push prices down even further.

NRMA spokesperson Peter also cautioned that 'extreme volatility on global markets' could lead to sudden changes in prices.

Despite the unpredictable nature of the market, Khoury remains optimistic.

'Relief is finally at hand for Australian drivers,' he prefaced.

'Families will finally get relief—either because prices are falling further than we had originally predicted before the market crashed—or because they did not rise as high as anticipated in Melbourne and Brisbane.'

Here is a list of expected petrol prices across cities:

To make the most of these lower prices, Khoury urged Australians planning road trips this weekend to use the My NRMA App before filling up.

By comparing prices through the app, drivers can find the best petrol deals across Australia.

So, before you embark on your Easter adventures, take a moment to check the latest fuel prices.

It's a simple step that could save you a fortune, leaving more for holiday treats and activities.
Key Takeaways

Yair, right. And how much will they increase in the oil companies' manufactured petrol yo-yo policy after Easter?
Just like the boiling-the-frog scenario, they put it up by a few cents, then lower it for a farcical amount of time, then increase it again at a higher price and that becomes the new "let's reduce the price from that new one" exercise. And the motorists are caught by the short and curlies all the while.
Complain to the government? Um ...

What utter rubbish.
Last week in the Southern suburbs of Melb the price was $1.83.
Yesterday Seven11 & Shell jumped their prices to $2 just in time for the Easter holidaying families return home..
Yes it will drop as soon as everyone is home and back to school and work!

PLEASE explain Petrol price cycles. Why is it so?? In Perth we see variations of up to 30cents a Litre between Lowest Prices and the Average. Why??

I don't know where the price of petrol has fallen, on the Central Coast of NSW, the prices have been steadily rising since the approach of the school holidays started. Shell and BP are the first to increase their prices and the last to drop them, and dropping them is a very rare event, that is why I won't buy their petrol at any time. I passed a service stn on the Tuggerah straight on Tuesday morning the 95 was $1.87, three hours later I passed it again and the price was $1.97... and it has climbed again. The price changes from suburb to suburb.... the NRMA can't explain the 'cycle', they didn't even bother to answer my 'letter to the Open Road', when I raised the issue with them... just buy the cheapest, .... and as soon as the word 'holiday, long week-end etc. is mentioned you can count to ten and watch the prices rise...have a great Easter everyone..
