90s Comedy Legend Spotted Looking Totally Different – You'll Never Guess Who It Is!

The streets of Los Angeles are no strangers to celebrities, but sometimes even the most iconic faces can stroll by unnoticed, especially when time has lent them a new guise. Recently, a towering figure of 90s comedy fame was spotted in a rare public appearance that left fans double-taking. This Dutch actor, known for his towering height and an unforgettable role in a '90s comedy blockbuster, was seen casually shopping for groceries at Trader Joe's. But can you guess who he is?

At 76 years old, this entertainer has become an enigma, rarely seen in the public eye. On this particular day, he was dressed unassumingly in a grey zip-up hoodie, black sweatpants, and sneakers, a far cry from the spooky butler attire we're used to seeing him in. His head was shielded with a green bucket hat, and his eyes were hidden behind a pair of dark sunglasses. After returning his cart, he was pictured making his way back to his car with the aid of a walking stick.

Yes, it's Carel Struycken, the actor who famously portrayed Lurch, the Addams Family's butler, in the 1991 film 'The Addams Family.' With his towering 7-foot frame and deep, resonant voice, Struycken brought to life the character originally created by cartoonist Charles Addams. Lurch's imposing presence and minimal words became a hallmark of the Addams household, which included the eccentric Gomez and Morticia, their children Wednesday and Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Grandmama, and not forgetting Pugsley's pet octopus, Aristotle.

Struycken's portrayal of Lurch was so iconic that he reprised the role in the sequel 'Addams Family Values' in 1993 and the 1998 TV film 'Addams Family Reunion.' His co-stars included the likes of Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, Christina Ricci, and Jimmy Workman, forming a cast that would become etched in the memories of a generation.

Beyond the Addams Family, Struycken's career has been diverse and fascinating. He was discovered in 1978 on Hollywood Boulevard and cast in 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.' He ventured into the galaxy far, far away with the role of Terak in the 'Star Wars’ spin-off film 'Ewoks: The Battle for Endor' in 1985. His collaboration with David Lynch and Mark Frost saw him play The Giant in the cult classic television series 'Twin Peaks' and its sequel series 'Twin Peaks: The Return' in 2017.

Struycken's unique look is due to acromegaly, a rare condition he was diagnosed with in his twenties. Acromegaly is caused by an overproduction of growth hormone and can lead to the enlargement of body parts such as hands, feet, and facial features. Despite the challenges, Struycken has had a successful career in Hollywood and lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.

The Addams Family has continued to capture imaginations with its macabre charm, leading to the recent Netflix spin-off 'Wednesday,' which launched in 2022. The show has already announced a second season, adding to the enduring legacy of the Addams clan.

For those who grew up watching 'The Addams Family,' seeing Carel Struycken today might be a jolt. But it's a heartwarming reminder of the passage of time and the lasting impact of the characters we've loved. Struycken's rare public sighting is a testament to the enduring nature of the characters he's played and the affection fans still hold for him.

I loved the show Prisoner and it was the early 80s I went to Randwick races and literally ran into Val Lehman who played Bea . We chatted for maybe 5 minutes . I remember thinking how opposite she was to the character she played. She was feminine and very beautiful on the inside and out.

In the 70s I had a crush on the singer William Shakespeare. It was 10pm and I was ordering food in a Cafe in Dulwich Hill. A guy who ordered food started talking to me when I realised who it was. I heard William Shakespeare lived in Dulwich Hill but never thought I would run into him
We sat down and ate together. He asked me out but I kindly turned him down as I had a boyfriend my now hubby.

We have a few close friends who are well know ex Australian cricket players including an Australian cricket Captain.

My daughters Godmothers niece is Ada Nicademou who plays Leaha in Home and Away. A couple of times she had dropped of garbage bags of her clothes and bags for my daughters. One time we found a paper in her jeans which was actually her lines.

Those celebrities we personally know are all down to earth people who have never let their celebrity status go to their heads

Oh dear!

William Shakespeare! I had the displeasure of meeting him one Saturday night at the Riverwood Pub (aka The Domino) in the early 1980s. He was pissed as a fart, dribbling shit until I realised who he was.

Well, he was a nobody, riding on the coat tails of ONE rubbish single. My Little Angel was his ode to pedophilia.

A weak wimp of the highest order.

Just Barry Crocker we meet in Red S supermarket when we lived in Hornsby.
Had a nice chat over the frozen food section
Ken James from ''Skippy'' when l was looking after my sisters house in Mooney Mooney .The crew stopped to ask if they could use the front of my sisters shop for a scene
Ken James had a bath in the house Ken James was very friendly but the rest stayed in the big van they had.
Some of the old blokes from ''Country Practice'' sat in the Kmart cafe in Hornsby but didn't approach them they just glared at me but l had not intentions of going near them anyway

My prominent brush with fame for me was Diana.
It was 1990. My husband and I were on holidays at the time. We had just left The Round Pond in Kensington Gardens, and were standing at a corner ready to cross the road on Kensington High Street. All of a sudden, we heard sirens blaring. It was the royal escort on their bikes, with a royal car following. We stood at the corner as Diana's car drove around the corner where we stood. We had a close, visual image of her giving us a quick glance as she passed. We were the only people at that particular time standing on that corner. I've never forgotten it.
