‘His Majesty has now returned to Clarence House and as a precautionary measure, acting on medical advice, tomorrow’s diary programme will also be rescheduled.’
‘His Majesty would like to send his apologies to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.’
King Charles had been set to travel to Birmingham on Friday for a full day of royal duties.
He was taken to the London Clinic, the same hospital where he underwent surgery in January last year for an enlarged prostate.
This is also where Catherine, Princess of Wales, had abdominal surgery in January before being diagnosed with cancer.
Princess Catherine, 43, underwent preventative chemotherapy, which concluded in September, and has since resumed a nearly full schedule of public engagements.
A palace spokesperson stated the King travelled to and from the hospital by car without Queen Camilla.
