When I worked in France, in 1993-94 many of the French people I worked with would pick up their children from school, every lunchtime, so that they could have a traditional lunch at home.

That included sharing a little wine with the kids.

Yes, cut with water and that never made us alcoholics. On the other hand, went to various public schools and I never had wine with lunch at school.
