Overnight millionaire! Powerball winner claims $30 million

Winning the lottery is a dream many Aussies share, but for a fortunate few, it becomes a life-changing reality.

This week’s draw has once again turned an ordinary ticket into an extraordinary fortune, adding another name to the growing list of instant multi-millionaires in 2025.

Here's how the latest lucky winner struck gold—along with the other big payouts that had Aussies celebrating.

A single ticket secured the entire $30 million jackpot in 27 February’s night’s Powerball draw, making one lucky Aussie an overnight multi-millionaire.

The winning numbers were 26, 22, 7, 35, 1, 11, and 25, with the Powerball number 3.

It was the latest in a series of massive wins this year, with several jackpots already reaching up to $100 million in 2025.

While one person took home the top prize, another 26 winners claimed division two, each receiving $23,000, while 70 others walked away with over $10,700 in the division three draw.

Earlier this month, a Queensland retiree scooped up a staggering $60 million Powerball jackpot and was in disbelief when officials broke the news.

‘Oh wow! You’re kidding. No way,’ he shared.

‘It’s after 9pm but this calls for a bottle of champagne!’

‘Is that real? I can’t stop laughing. Holy s***! I’ve won $60m?’

‘Now my wife can’t stop laughing, too. She’s in shock!’ he added.

The win was particularly surreal for him, as he had been drifting off to sleep imagining what it would be like to hit the jackpot.

‘No joke, I was just drifting off to sleep dreaming about what it would be like to win the lotto—all the things I could do,’ he said.

With his newfound wealth, he planned to help not only his family but also friends who were struggling.

In February, a woman from Lismore made history as the biggest Oz Lotto winner after securing the entire $100 million prize.

She had just finished watching Married At First Sight when she received the life-changing call.

‘That’s crazy! I just finished watching tonight’s episode of Married At First Sight and I was falling asleep as you called me,’ she shared.

The next Powerball draw was set for 6 March 2025, with a $10 million prize up for grabs.

In a previous story, not every lottery win brought celebrations and champagne.

A group of neighbours saw their jackpot turn into a legal battle over a $5 million prize.

Read about how their dream win took a dramatic turn and why it could happen to anyone.

I personally think there should be a limit on the amount of first prize. Nobody needs such a ridiculous amount of money.

Imagine if all those millions were dispersed proportionately between the lower prize winners. It would help out so many more people.

I always thought it would be nice to win $10 million. I would keep $2m, give one million each to three friends, one million each to my children and the remaining two million to charity.
Any more would just give me a headache.

IF I suddenly found myself a multi-millionaire the first thing I would do is get ALL
Repairs on their house done .. help My Daughter & Family ..donate to charities
including Churches Hospitals and research not forgetting the Animal Shelters who do their best with what they have to look after the poor dumb creatures.
Then go on a vacation..

I would happily gave this headache!

At 68 I don't need 60 million if I I won that much there are friend and relatives lives I would improve and the charities I support now would benefit. My wife and I would be happy with about $500,000

Yes I agree those huge amounts are too life changing for some! So much better to give more to the smaller prizes in my opinion.

If you win that amount of money you would not advertise it, because suddenly you would have family and friends coming out of the woodwork. Especially the family members that have ignored you for years.

I so agree. Some of the amounts of prizes are simply obscene. Can they not at least break them up into 3 prizes or more? Or maybe set a limit and then donate $$$ to charities.

It all comes back to your age when you have a "big" win. Opportunities galore when young, adventure when middle aged, problems when old.
