It says all five sisters are busy, but does not disallow others to be involved, so the obvious answer "playing chess with Lucy" is only one of infinite answers. For all we know Lucy is playing chess on a computer with a "virtual" opponent and the other sister, whatever their name is is off shopping or doing anything she pleases, anywhere she pleases. It doesn't tell us the year or what technology exists in this fictional world. Maybe robots are part of the family. Hey, maybe all the sisters are robots. There are infinite answers to this riddle. AND If I'm (the) Mary, I'm probably NOT doing the laundry!
