You won't believe which celebrity 'hit it off' with Queen Elizabeth before her passing

The departed Queen Elizabeth II had no shortage of high-profile acquaintances.
Being one of the most beloved monarchs in contemporary history tends to have that perk, after all!
But would you believe Tom Cruise of all people would be among the privileged few to call the Queen a friend?
According to some reports citing anonymous sources, the actor and the Queen ‘really hit it off’ over the summer before her death.
If you recall, many people raised their eyebrows when Cruise made an appearance at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in May when she celebrated her 70th year on the British throne.
The actor had nothing but awe and elation for the monarch, and he said: ‘What she has accomplished is historic. She has met presidents, world leaders, and people from all walks of life.’

‘Not just Americans, but the world knows the dignity, devotion, and kindness, that is what I have always felt about her. Someone that understands her position and has held it through a history that's just been extraordinary the past 70 years.’
‘It is a wonderful event and I feel very privileged to be here. I was very honoured.’
The months leading up to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee were fraught with tension and worry for her subjects and supporters over persistent speculation on the state of her health.
Still, her royal aides described her as in good spirits and very involved in organising the event.
The Queen was also supposed to meet Cruise but wasn’t able to do so over problems with mobility.
According to an anonymous source, it seems the Queen wasn’t content to let things continue as they were, and took a proactive stance in meeting the actor.

‘The Queen let it be known that she was really disappointed not to have met Tom at the pageant, so he was invited to have a special tour of Windsor Castle with everything laid on for him. Afterwards, the two of them had tea together,’ they said.
The source claimed that the visit was a success, adding that Cruise was even given a chance to fire a ceremonial gun.
Oh to be a fly on the wall!
The source also added that the Queen and Cruise were supposed to meet again.
‘She loved seeing him and they really hit it off, so much so that she invited him back for lunch. He was even allowed to fly in by helicopter,’ they added.
But sadly for this unlikely pair, they would never meet again because of the Queen’s passing on September 8 at the age of 96 due to old age.
Thousands of people took to the streets to mourn and pay their final respects before she was buried in Windsor Castle.
If you have time, please check out the Queen’s long relationship with Australia here or revisit how our dear members remembered her here.
So, what is your reaction to the story of the Queen’s friendship with Tom Cruise? Is it something that surprised you?
