You won't believe what this shopper found lurking in the meat section of Coles! Shocking moment caught on camera

If you're a frequent shopper, you might think you know your local supermarket like the back of your hand. But the truth is, supermarkets are always full of surprises.

There’s always something new to discover, from the latest products to unexpected discounts and promotions.

And if you thought you’d seen it all during your years of shopping, just wait until you hear the latest Coles incident to hit the headlines…

An unsuspecting shopper was left absolutely mortified after a recent trip to a Coles store in Mitcham in Melbourne’s east.

Teresa Carrattelli was browsing in the meat aisle when she saw something move out of the corner of her eye.

At first, she assumed it was a rat scuttling around, but upon closer inspection was shocked to discover it was a possum!

What’s worse? The furry critter was clambering over the meat trays on the bottom shelf, right where people were reaching for their favourite meat products.

While many of the shoppers present tried to catch the possum, it managed to make an escape before anyone could properly help it.

Ms Carrattelli recounted how she screamed when she saw the possum and was shocked to see it so close to the food people were buying.

'I got a little bit closer and realised it was a possum, and I thought poor little thing must be so scared,' she shared.

'There were a couple of girls trying to scoop it up with a basket or bag.'

Despite witnessing something she had never seen before in the two years she had been a regular shopper at the store, she stated that the incident wouldn't deter her from continuing to shop there.

The shopper continued: 'You would hope that all that meat was protected; at the same time, you would want them to clean out the area.’

Expressing empathy for the possum's well-being, the shopper hoped that the authorities would take measures to safely remove critters next time this happens.

On the brighter side, many shoppers have taken this incident as an opportunity to have a laugh.

One person commented: 'Poor possum, someone please direct him to the fruit/veg dept.'

'Just looking for post-Easter bargains,' another joked.

A third chimed in: ‘Even the possum doesn't want to be vegan.’

Coles has yet to comment on the incident.

Literally Coles have very fresh meat on display. Thant is Possum meat! Yes all that food should not be sold as the plastic would be peiced by it sharp claws and contaminated.

and his little claws would be piercing the plastic on that meat....little disease ridden claws thats he/she has been licking and scratching their butt with!
My thoughts exactly, all that meat would’ve had to have been destroyed. Let’s just hope no one has picked any up that had been “tampered” with 💕
