You won’t believe what this 80s pop icon looks like today! Can you guess who it is?

The 1980s were a time of big hair, bold fashion, and unforgettable music. Among the era's most iconic figures was a man whose soulful voice and fiery red hair captured the hearts of fans worldwide.

He led a band that churned out hit after hit, defining a generation with tunes that remain timeless classics. But if you passed him on the street today, you might not even recognise the pop pioneer who once dominated the charts.

So, who is this mystery man? None other than Mick Hucknall, the lead singer of Simply Red.

Recently, Hucknall was spotted walking his dog, Pip, in the quiet streets of north London, a far cry from the glitzy stages and adoring crowds of his heyday.

Dressed in a forest green top, baggy jeans, and sporting a hat that concealed his once-signature ginger locks, the 64-year-old singer looked the ordinary suburbanite.

His casual attire, complete with fingerless gloves and heavily tinted sunglasses, would hardly draw a second glance from passersby unaware of his storied past.

In the 1980s, Hucknall was at the centre of the music scene, with hits like 'Holding Back the Years', 'Money's Too Tight (To Mention)’, and 'The Right Thing' propelling Simply Red to stardom.

The band's debut album, Picture Book, was a smash success, and their soulful pop sound became synonymous with the decade.

But Hucknall's life wasn't just about the music. Known for his playboy lifestyle, he famously claimed to have been with more than 1,000 women, including high-profile relationships with actresses Catherine Zeta-Jones and Martine McCutcheon, as well as model Melanie Sykes.

‘I was just touring the world and being single, being a playboy, being a bachelor—I didn't really know what I was doing,’ Hucknall said.

'I was just having a good time whenever. I like to have good times.'

However, the pandemic brought a period of reflection for Hucknall, who now cherishes his role as a father and husband.

He married art dealer Gabriella Wesberry in 2010 and welcomed their daughter, Romy.

'I am a father and a husband. And I'm still having a good time. Very, very different, yeah, but I love it,’ he said.

‘Those days are long gone. I don't miss them. I'm in a much happier place now than I've ever been in my life.’

Despite his quieter life, Hucknall hasn't completely left the limelight. Last year, he opened up about his struggles with long COVID, sharing his experiences with heart palpitations and insomnia.

He explained that he often wakes up in the middle of the night ‘with my heart going ba-boom, ba-boom’.

And while he may enjoy the simple pleasure of walking his dog these days, Hucknall and Simply Red are gearing up for a momentous occasion: their 40th-anniversary tour.

The tour promises to bring back the nostalgia of the 80s, with a 13-date UK arena tour kicking off in Belfast on 23 September and concluding with a grand finale at London's O2 Arena, supported by R&B legends Soul II Soul.

I thought I did, but I didn't recognize them.
I know how he feels, I still wear a mask, never want that covid again.
Great band and great songs, good to hear they're out touring again.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to name one of Simply Red's songs. I just looked up their discography and I vaguely recognised three of the singles, with only "If You Don't Know Me by Now" making to Number One in Australia in 1989.

Just too pedestrian for my tastes.
