You won’t believe what happened when this pregnant news anchor went into labour—live on air!

It’s not every day you tune in to the morning news and get a front-row seat to a real-life drama that’s more gripping than anything on Netflix! But that’s exactly what happened for viewers of WRGB, a local CBS affiliate in New York, when news anchor Olivia Jaquith’s water broke just moments before she was due to go live. And in true professional style, Olivia didn’t just power through—she anchored the news while in active labour, refusing to leave her desk for hours!

Now, we’ve all heard the phrase 'the show must go on,' but Olivia took it to a whole new level. As her co-anchor Julia Dunn announced to viewers, 'We do have some breaking news this morning, literally. Olivia’s water has broken and she is anchoring the news now in active labour.' Talk about commitment to the job!

Olivia, who was two days past her due date and expecting a baby boy with her husband Tyn, was quick to clarify that she was only in early labour and had experienced just one contraction so far. 'It’s been a few minutes since then, so we’re still in good shape,' she reassured everyone, with the calmness of someone reading the weather, not about to welcome a new life into the world.

Her colleagues, understandably, encouraged her to head to the hospital, but Olivia was determined to finish her shift. 'Well, I’m happy to be here and I’ll stay on the desk for as long as I can,' she said, even joking that she thought she could get through the entire three-hour show. And she did! At the end of the broadcast, Julia—who is also pregnant—gave Olivia a high-five, declaring, 'Three hours of news, in contractions. I think that’s a first for CBS6.'

The newsroom had a bit of fun with the situation, too, flashing a graphic on screen that read: 'Days past due date: 2.' Meanwhile, Julia kept viewers updated off-camera, sharing a video on Facebook and exclaiming, 'Guys, this isn’t April Fools. Olivia’s water broke in the newsroom.'

Olivia herself took it all in stride, laughing about her experience and admitting, 'I don’t know what’s going on, this is my first time. I’m new here.' She even shared a bit of TMI (but let’s be honest, we’ve all been there): 'Yesterday I was getting cramps when I was on the desk and I didn’t really think anything of it...this morning I got up to go pee, but then stuff just kept coming out.'

Her mother, when asked for comment, wasn’t surprised in the slightest. 'It’s just exactly what I expected, honestly. That’s her. That’s how she operates.' Clearly, Olivia’s work ethic is legendary!

News Director Stone Grissom summed it up perfectly: 'From her on-air pregnancy announcement earlier this year to running a half-marathon while expecting, Olivia has met every stage of this journey with grace and grit. Today was no exception. Olivia’s passion for storytelling, love for her hometown, and commitment to our viewers have always been evident. We’re overjoyed to soon welcome our newest (and tiniest!) member.'

A Moment That Resonates

For many of us, especially those who’ve juggled work and family, Olivia’s story is a reminder of the resilience and determination that women (and mums-to-be!) show every day. It’s also a testament to the unpredictable nature of life—sometimes, the most memorable moments happen when you least expect them.

And let’s not forget, this isn’t the first time a news anchor has made headlines for going above and beyond. From reading the news during natural disasters to reporting live from the scene of major events, journalists often put their duty to inform the public above their own comfort. But Olivia’s story adds a whole new meaning to 'breaking news'!

The Lighter Side: When Life Interrupts Work

We’ve all had those days when life throws a curveball at work—maybe the grandkids pop up on a Zoom call, or the dog decides to bark during a phone meeting. But going into labour on live TV? That’s a story for the ages!

It also raises some interesting questions: How would you react in Olivia’s shoes? Would you have stayed at your post, or made a beeline for the hospital? And for those of us who’ve experienced the joys (and chaos) of childbirth, do you have any memorable stories about when your own little ones decided to make their grand entrance?

Let’s Celebrate the Everyday Heroes

Olivia’s story is a wonderful reminder that everyday heroes are all around us—sometimes, they’re even reading the news! Whether it’s a parent, grandparent, or friend, we all know someone who’s gone above and beyond in the face of life’s surprises.

So, members, we’d love to hear from you! Have you ever had to power through a workday while something major was happening in your personal life?
