If you grew up watching the magical misadventures of Samantha, Darrin, and their precocious daughter Tabitha on Bewitched, you’ll remember the adorable little girl who could wiggle her nose and make just about anything happen. Well, Tabitha—better known in real life as Erin Murphy—is now 61, and she’s still turning heads, but this time it’s for her refreshingly honest approach to ageing.

Recently, Erin Murphy found herself at the centre of a social media storm, with some fans speculating that her youthful looks must be the result of a facelift.

Instead of letting the rumours spread, Erin took to social media with a bold, make-up free selfie and a heartfelt message to set the record straight.

‘This is 61… WITHOUT a facelift, without any make-up,’ she wrote, addressing her followers directly. ‘Not sure why so many random people on social media feel the need to speculate that I’ve had a facelift; but I haven’t. I suppose it’s a backhanded compliment that you think I look good 'for my age'. This is me at 61.’

Erin didn’t stop there. She opened up about the real marks of a life well-lived: ‘I’ve got a scar on my forehead from when my head hit the pavement a couple of years ago in a dog-walking accident. I’ve got a scar under my chin from when it hit the kitchen floor when I was a little girl. I have smile lines around my eyes, since I laugh more than I cry. I’ve got some freckles and a little tan, since I love the sunshine.’

Her message to the critics was simple but powerful: ‘Before you sit down at the computer and write something negative about someone you’ve never met, why don’t you think about something nice you can say—or don’t say anything at all. Get outside and enjoy this beautiful day. That’s where I’ll be.’

A magical childhood—and a lasting legacy

For those who may not know, Erin Murphy played Tabitha Stephens, the magical daughter of Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) and Darrin Stephens, from 1966 to 1972. She shared the role with her fraternal twin sister Diane in the early years, a clever workaround for strict child labour laws in the US.

As Erin herself has shared in interviews, the twins didn’t look much alike, so Diane was often filmed from behind or at a distance, and Erin eventually took over the role entirely.

Erin’s memories of the Bewitched set are as heart-warming as you’d hope. She’s spoken fondly of her on-screen parents and co-stars, especially Dick York (the original Darrin), whom she described as ‘more paternal’ and ‘like a dad,’ and Agnes Moorehead (Endora), who was ‘very much like a grandma to me and I just thought she was beautiful and colourful and fun. And her favourite colour was purple and everything in her dressing room was purple.’

She also shared that Elizabeth Montgomery (Samantha) ‘was like a mom’ to her, adding, ‘We were close off the set and I loved her very much.’

In a rare interview, Erin also recalled her friendship with Dick Sargent, who took over the role of Darrin after York’s departure. ‘Dick Sargent was a great guy, and we stayed in touch until he passed away,’ she shared, adding, ‘but I’m going with Dick York on this one.’

After Bewitched ended, Erin stepped away from the limelight, but the show’s enduring popularity has kept her a familiar face for generations of fans. She’s embraced her place in TV history with grace and good humour.

Later, in the 1970s, a short-lived spin-off series titled Tabitha featured an adult version of her character, played by Lisa Hartman. Starting her role as Tabitha at just two years old, Erin later graduated from El Toro High School in Lake Forest, California, in 1981.

The real secret to ageing gracefully

So, what’s Erin’s secret to looking so good at 61? According to her, it’s not surgery or expensive treatments—it’s laughter, sunshine, and a life filled with love and adventure. Her candid approach is a breath of fresh air in a world obsessed with youth and perfection.

Her story is a timely reminder for all of us: every line, scar, and freckle tells a story. They’re not flaws to be hidden, but badges of a life well-lived. And as Erin proves, confidence and kindness are the best beauty treatments of all.

Why we love seeing stars age naturally

There’s something incredibly reassuring about seeing a beloved TV star embrace her age, imperfections and all.

For many of us in the Seniors Discount Club, it’s a reminder that we don’t need to chase impossible standards or hide the evidence of our years. In fact, there’s a certain magic in growing older—wisdom, resilience, and the freedom to be unapologetically ourselves.

Erin’s message is one we can all take to heart: ‘Get outside and enjoy this beautiful day.’ Whether you’re 61 or 91, there’s no substitute for a bit of sunshine, a good laugh, and the company of friends and family.
