Who remembers the old wooden pencil cases you used to have in school? The smooth slide, that woody scent, and the struggle of fitting in all your favourite pencils and erasers. Those cases lasted for years! Do you still have your wooden pencil case? Share your memories in the comments below.

I do remember these pencil cases, but the trend for my first few years of High school 1974 to 1976 (all girls) as to have a pretty tin. The building had timber floors so you can imagine how impressed the teachers were. when at last once a day one would be knocked off the old fashioned desks. Needless to say they were eventually banned.

Yes I remember these pencil cases, and the smell of the wood, and of the pencils in the case. I still have one in my old time collection I have put together for the kids and grandkids. At the small country school I first attended the boys used to make these in their woodwork classes. Girls weren’t allowed to do woodwork back then, we had to do hand sewing, knitting, cross stitch etc.

I remember them but never had one. I remember the day I got my first tin of 12 Derwent coloured pencils. I was so happy as they were the best pencils for doing projects, such vivid bright colours. I treasured them and didn't like to sharpen them too much. All the kids wanted to borrow them and I let them as not many kids were lucky enough to have them as they were expensive back then. I may have even got them as a birthday present as they were the top pencil in their day.
