Woman shares how she transformed her basement into a chic space for under $1000

Think it’s impossible to renovate your home on a modest budget? Think again! Just take a cue from this Aussie homeowner who did an amazing job transforming her basement into a fun space for friends to hang out.

For about $1000, she was able to use other people's trash and a lot of imagination to create a really cool space.

Single homeowner Tracey said that she had been struggling with financing her home renovation so she opted for more inventive ways to push through with her DIY project.

She shared: "This is a room under my house that has been in the redecorating process for over a year now."

"I couldn't afford much, so when my neighbour said we were getting a new fence put up, I asked if I could have the old one."

"She looked at me like I was crazy."

"Then a mate gave me a few sheets of tin, which I spray painted silver."

"My parents bought me some 2nd-hand carpet tiles as a Christmas gift, and Dad and I worked on this room when we had a chance."

"We made the bar on the wall and the kitchen bench from scratch."

Tracey then got to work, adding some finishing touches to make her new space look extra stylish.

"Add some LED lights and empty bottles with light corks, and it looks a million dollars," she quipped.

"All up, I reckon it's cost about $1000 to do, with the pine benchtop, carpet tiles, tiles on the floor and lights."

Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle, Tracey said that she was motivated to transform her "ugly storeroom" into a chic space despite not having the budget to do so.

"It started as an ugly storeroom under my house," she mentioned.

She also expressed her gratitude to her father for helping her achieve her vision.

She shared: "I just love the old rustic and country look."

"I'd seen the odd wall and room done with wood and tin, and when my neighbour said we were getting a new fence, I asked if I could have the old fence.

"My dad and I started renovating and it went from there.

"We ripped the old carpet up and put down carpet tiles, plastered the walls, tiled the concrete entrance and gave the sink cupboards a coat of white paint.

"We were originally only doing one wall, then ended up doing 3 walls and made the island bench.

"So, from what started out as just an image in my head, we went from there."

Tracey admitted that she had yet to use the new room.

"I haven't used it as yet, but I'm having a small party with some friends and family in a few weeks for my birthday," she confessed.

Social media users raved over the stunning DIY project, with the post garnering more than 500 likes and over 100 comments, with many praising Tracey for her creativity.

One person wrote: "Absolutely love this well done."

"Wow!!! That's the ultimate in upcycling. Looks amazing," another said.

A third chimed in: "It looks absolutely amazing. Excellent vision and skills. You will treasure the memories of working with your dad to create this amazing space."

I didn't get to do any renovating in my life, due to my husband. When we were looking for our first house we went to look at an old property and I scared the pants off him when I said "it'll be great if we knock this wall out, put in French Doors and move the kitchen. From that point on he always insisted on new builds and had any changes done in the planning stage!!:):ROFLMAO:;)
