The Chicken Pad Thai meal kit was first introduced in June 2022 and comes pre-packed with fresh eggs, vegetables, sauce, chilli flakes and chicken. You can also add your own spices and extras to the dish to tailor it to your taste.

The box even has easy-to-follow instructions, ensuring you can put a delicious dinner on the table in just 15 minutes.

Shoppers have been overwhelmingly positive about this wallet-friendly meal solution, with many taking to social media to share their reviews.

‘Tried the Chicken Pad Thai meal kit tonight, and I have to say, it was amazing,' one said in a popular Facebook group.

They also claimed that the ingredients were ‘so fresh’ and the meal kit was easy to cook.

‘I pretty much cook everything from scratch because I really enjoy cooking and find it very budget-friendly. But this was $15 and fed me (pregnant) and my partner (hungry), and we still have enough left for lunch for me tomorrow. Really impressed,’ they added.

‘Wow, looks so delicious. $15 is very good, especially if you have enough for lunch the next day,’ one commented.

Others claimed that they now had a hard time finding the meal kit in stores because of how popular they were becoming.

‘This Pad Thai is amazing, better than a restaurant. Will definitely be buying this again,’ one shopper said.

‘But it's become so popular it's been selling out and much harder to find. I tried looking for it last time I was there, and I couldn't find it,’ they added.

Someone else wrote: ‘Looking forward to trying this! [I’m] in SA and haven’t been to our local ALDI yet.’

While someone shared they have yet to see stocks in their local stores in Western Australia.

Others warned to be wary of using too much of the chilli flakes that come in the kit.

‘I tried this last night. Very tasty, I thought. I didn’t add the chilli flakes as I don’t like it too hot,’ one replied.

According to past research from the food and beverage online ordering platform Menulog, Pad Thai is a ‘staple’ in almost all Thai restaurants across the country.

Based on their Pad Thai Index statistics, Pad Thai in Darling Harbour (one of the most expensive suburbs in Sydney) costs $17.90.

On the other hand, Greenacre (considered a ‘cheaper’ suburb in Sydney) Pad Thai takeaway costs $7.90.

If you look at the prices by state, in Queensland, the average cost is $13. In Victoria and Western Australia, the cost of Pad Thai takeaway is $12 and $12.70, respectively. Finally, in New South Wales, the average cost is $12.

As a whole, the average price of Pad Thai takeaway is $12.10, with the cheapest menu found in South Australia ($11). However, the serving sizes typically feed one or two people.

The index focused on the cost of an average Pad Thai from randomly selected restaurants that were featured in Menulog’s app that delivers takeaway. The figures were taken from over 270 suburbs and five major cities.

However, this data is from the year 2013. Imagine how much these must cost now, considering the country is still seeing a cost-of-living crisis. A small survey within the SDC team found an average price of $21.95 for takeaway Pad Thai.

In comparison, ALDI’s dinner kit costs $14.99 and feeds up to three people.

‘You don’t need to spend hours in the kitchen to create serious flavour,’ the product description read.

‘ALDI’s new cooking kits save you time without compromising on flavours. Simply choose your cooking kit, shop the remaining ingredients listed on the pack, and you’re good to go,’ it continued.

I always find it cheaper to make your own from your own recipe.

This is excellent for those who really can't cook.

These Kits verses takeaway you also have to take into consideration your time and the cost of electricity you use .

I make Pad Thai for my son and daughter will post my recipe for it

I only eat free range chicken so no good for me - also you never know what’s in the sauce. . . But that’s just me🙄
You sound like my kind of person, Dead fussy! But there it is if you don't take care of yourself then someone has to.I don't eat anything foreign at all, I love chicken but not all the fancy add ons plain roasted for me thanks.

Husband and I are very fussy eaters, very rarely buy take away,me because I am fussier than him,he will occasionaly buy a burger for lunch but there are way to many reasons that I wont, same reason I do not buy the meal kits sold in the supermarkets, prefer to make my own, that way I know what is in them. Sugar and salt content, lactose as well as the hidden MSG are the main reason's but mostly the actual taste, either too bland or too spicy, big NO from me, will happily spend the time in the kitchen concocting my own versions, with the fresh food bought by me while doing the shopping.
