Who knew you could use duckboards like this? This DIY enthusiast's genius gardening tip is getting praised online!

Gardening is one of life's great joys. It's a peaceful, calming activity that can help you connect with nature. There's something special about getting your hands dirty and watching your plants grow.

Gardening can be a great way to relieve stress and clear your mind. It's also a great workout since you're constantly bending, stooping, and reaching. And, of course, it's a great way to get fresh air and vitamin D.

However, gardening can also get quite expensive, especially if you're constantly buying new equipment. But there are ways to save money on gardening costs. For example, you can repurpose duckboards as collapsible potting stations.

You read that right, folks! Duckboards are most commonly sold under the name ‘bamboo bath mat’ and are used to avoid slipping after getting out of the shower. Duckboards are also often used as a mat to protect flooring from dirt and mud.

One inventive woman has turned her duckboard/bamboo bath mat into a collapsible potting station, and it's garnered a lot of attention on social media.

Sharing photos of her set up on the Kmart Home Decors & Hacks Australia Facebook group, the Sydneysider shared that she managed to transform the humble wooden mat into a potting station using some hinges and imagination (and elbow grease of course!).

'Duckboard turned into a collapsible potting station!' she wrote in the caption of the photos.

However, as one Facebook user pointed out, duckboards can be prone to mould if they get wet.

One user wrote: 'Sorry to say but it will be mouldy in a few weeks. They will harbour mould and you can't get rid of it.'

'Yeah, if it gets wet it will get mouldy. If you can keep it dry it will not get mould,' another added.

Despite this potential downside, many Facebook users have had great success using duckboards in wet environments, with some even finding that they last for years without any problems.

One user even defended the woman for her crafty tip suggesting that her duckboard has 'surprisingly never gotten mouldy'.

'I have one over my laundry sink with my washing stuff on it had it for ages now. Lots of my Kmart stuff is all good and doesn’t get mouldy, it’s strange,' a user shared.

While some people are sceptical about the longevity of the duckboard-turned-potting station, others are impressed with the idea and say it's a great way to make use of a space that might otherwise go unused.

One comment read: 'Brilliant idea. Thank you for sharing.'

'Very smart,' another praised.

Some people have even suggested sealing the duckboard with a waterproof coating to help it withstand the elements.

One person advised: 'Definitely seal it with something. Mine was awesome in my laundry where it never got wet. Moved house and needed it as well a duckboard in the new bathroom and it went mouldy within 2 months.'

'Cool idea! Definitely, painting is a good idea for longevity, I had one outdoors that lasted a couple of weeks before going mouldy,' another recommended.

Others suggested some more ideas on how you can repurpose the duckboards.

One woman shared: 'Fabulous idea. I was thinking of something like this to stand the bird feeding trays on as cockatoos keep tipping the bird baths over.'

Whether you're looking for a new way to pot your plants or just want to get creative with your space, a duckboard potting station might be the perfect solution. Just be sure to keep an eye on it for mould, and you'll be good to go!

There are so many great DIY ideas out there, and it's always satisfying to find a way to use something that would otherwise go to waste. So, next time you're thinking of repurposing that old household item, don't hesitate to put that vision into reality, you'll be surprised at what you can create!

I have used an old plastic/nylon toilet cistern as a "plant starter" for my tomato seeds and it has now been extremely successful TWICE without being re-seeded from last year!
When I planted a full packet of seeds in it last year I reckoned the ALL sprouted but having then transplanted all of them, to my surprise, I had another crop come up in that same container this year without the need to re-seed??
They have now been transplanted and are producing excellent tomatoes!

Bamboo is very porous and goes mouldy easily. I had a duck board which I had to throw away after a short time, and I now avoid all bamboo products for that reason.

We use metal and wooden shelves.
They last forever .

We also use old wheelbarrows to plant flowers or herbs

Tried bamboo once but didn't last and looked pretty ugly
