Who knew the Queen had such a great sense of humour? She once even called herself 'Miss Piggy'

As tributes still flow in for the late Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96 after ruling for more than 70 years, it's clear that her subjects miss her very much.
But while the Queen is being remembered primarily for her dedicated service to her country, we here at the Seniors Discount Club would like to focus on another aspect of her life and legacy: namely, her penchant for humour.
For example, did you know that The Queen referred to herself as 'Miss Piggy' one time? No joke!
While watching highlights from Prince Charles and Princess Diana's 1981 wedding with her husband Philip, she reportedly said, 'Oh look darling […] I've got my Miss Piggy face on.'
And apparently, this self-effacing moniker became an inside joke among family and staff alike; Buckingham Palace staffers even gave her a birthday card depicting the Muppet character Miss Piggy as The Queen herself when she turned 60 in 1986!
Upon opening the card, the queen 'burst into peals of laughter', said the royal staffers who were around at the time. How funny is that?
Alfred Oates, who worked for the Queen for 57 years, recalled the wonderful moment: 'There she was, as the crowds could see, laughing the whole way round.'
This natural (and sometimes self-deprecating) wit was very much a part of the late Queen's personality as the clothes she wore and the grin that lighted up her face, according to a new biography of the late Queen, which will be released soon.
The fact that she could laugh at herself was important, too. Despite the adversity she faced, she proved time and again that she can find humour in any situation.
In another example, Queen Elizabeth II attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in November 2015. There, she was honoured by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at a Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting banquet on the island.
But she also poked fun at the newly elected Canadian head of state for applauding her 'long and tireless service'. The Queen, who was 89 years old at the time, responded jokingly to Mr Trudeau's comment that she has 'seen more of Canada than most Canadians' by saying, 'Thank you, Mr Prime Minister of Canada, for making me feel so old.'

From what we can tell based on these stories, it seems like The Queen had a good sense of humour – which is something else we'll remember her by.

Meanwhile, here are some more amusing and heartfelt moments to remember the Queen by.
