What do bananas, pineapples and peaches really mean in supermarkets? Single shoppers are using secret ‘dating codes’ to find a match

We've all been there – roaming up and down the supermarket aisle, tossing items into our trolleys willy-nilly without a care in the world. However, unbeknownst to many of us, some single people are on the lookout for more than just groceries while doing their food shop.
You read that right, folks! As it turns out, there may be a way for hopeless romantics to find dates in grocery stories.
For years now, rumours have been circulating about so-called 'secret dating codes' that singles can use in supermarkets to send subtle (or not-so-subtle) messages across the aisle and maybe even score themselves a date in the process, according to radio host Brittany Hockle.
In the recent episode of her podcast Life Uncut, the 35-year-old disclosed her shocking discovery, revealing that some singles have started using certain items as 'codes' to let others know that they're open to dating or swinging.
'There is this myth that you can go and pick up in a supermarket and there are all these secret signs and signals - depending on what you have in your trolley,' she said.

For example, if you see someone with a bunch of bananas placed upright in their trolley, it means they're single and looking for love. On the other hand, if those bananas are placed upside down, it means they're not interested or taken.
Pineapples also hold a secret meaning – specifically when they're placed upside down in someone's trolley (an act that apparently entices potential swingers).
Peaches are another popular code fruit among singles; placing one in somebody else's trolley is apparently a way of letting them know you're interested.
Naturally, the success of this entire dating fad depends on people being aware of the hidden codes in advance.
Keeping this in mind, some individuals become perplexed after unintentionally displaying these 'codes' in public.
Queenslander Brittany Lewin was appalled to learn that the 'upside-down' pineapple tattoo she had on her arm was actually a swingers' code symbol for finding other like-minded individuals.
She shared a TikTok video in which she said she had 'made a mistake' after learning the tattoo's secret meaning from a friend who had texted it to her.
After researching ‘upside down pineapple meaning,’ she discovered that swingers who are looking for a swinger party covertly use the tattoo.
As she read the meaning, Brittany seemed at a loss for words before laughing out loud.
Who knew that doing your grocery shopping could be so complicated these days? There's no denying that this generation is more open about sex and dating than any that came before it.
It's different from our generation. We had to actually go out and meet people. We had to put ourselves in social situations and hope that we would meet someone that we were attracted to. And we certainly didn’t have the internet to blast our private lives online.
Keeping this in mind, we want to ask you, are you aware of these 'codes'? If not, have you experienced being approached by some people asking about these things? Share your stories with us in the comments below!
